The objects requested would replace our favorite items that have been worn down from years of use. Our two favorite beanbags in our library area are torn up and have been patched up so the stuffing won’t fall out. Students enjoy sitting on the beanbags and reading together. They also come in handy since students can pick them up and move to various spots around the classroom. The beanbags also serve as a calm down area when some students need a moment to cool off and reflect on a conflict they are facing. Not only are our beanbags falling apart but our class’s bookshelf is also in rough shape. Many of the books in our classroom library are about five years old and are falling apart. Students use these books daily to take Accelerated Reader or AR comprehension tests on. With each comprehension test they pass, they receive points. The top five students in second grade with the most points receive a monthly award from the principal. Last month we had three of our students make that list. It was exciting to see their hard work paying off however, without new books it will be difficult for them to continue to reach this accomplishment. The students have also voiced that they wished we had more non-fiction books. These items are greatly needed and will get frequent use in our classroom.
