Promoting Reading Through Art
Funded Sep 21, 2016Dear Donors:
Even though Mr. McKinney hasn't started painting in the library yet, we are already planning what we would like him to paint. We found lots of awesome ideas online. We searched together and talked about why different murals might be best in our library. Some of the ideas we have come up with are scenes from around South Carolina like the mountains, ocean, swamps, forests and wetlands. We have such a beautiful state, so we might like to take our project in that direction. Some of us just want a lot of trees and sunshine in our library mural. We want it to feel like we are outside. Either way, we know we want to have nature surrounding us in our library. We think it would be really cool to have at least one big tree taking up our biggest wall!
It's fun to imagine what the library will look like when our project is finished. Planning out projects like this prepares us for our futures. Our teachers show us every day how important it is to have a good plan in place before moving forward with any project. Many of us still aren't 100% sure what we want to be when we grow up, but seeing Mr. McKinney's murals has made at least one of us feel inspired to be an artist. As Mr. McKinney works we are looking forward to talking with him and finding out more about his career path and learning as much as possible from him!
We can't wait for Mr. McKinney to start drawing up and painting our ideas! He is already in our school almost every day working on other murals. Watching murals form is awesome! Mr. McKinney is really talented, and we are excited to see how it all turns out. Mrs. Fowler will post pictures of our finished murals here on Donors Choose and on social media.”
With gratitude,
Dr. Fowler
