The students in my class have a variety of learning needs, and most of our lessons and read alouds happen in a communal space. There are 32 students in my 1st grade class, and ensuring that children have designated personal space when they learn is extremely important to support their focus, learning, and social development.
A classroom carpet will help my students in a plethora of ways. First, they will have the space they need to learn by having the opportunity to visualize their own designated spots. Additionally, students have more clarity surrounding what personal space feels like and looks like during learning. The presence of a classroom rug will also support our community circles and sharing circles as students have clear boundaries for where to sit when they are turned in listening to their peers. As 1st graders, they are learning how to regulate their bodies in their spaces, and a classroom carpet would be invaluable in helping them through these processes. Thank you!
