Most elementary schools have a book room filled to the brim with classroom sets of novels. These books have been well loved by generations of students, which leaves our current classrooms with dated material that require extensive time to glue and tape together pages that have long since escaped their bindings. We would like to bring novel studies into the 21st century with a classroom set of eReaders to increase access and sustainability. These eReaders are equipped with text to speech capabilities which will allow struggling readers to access content to review information without relying on other students or teachers, increasing their independence and confidence. There are a variety of accessibility features which will allow our students to access more of the text than a traditional paperback book allows. We will no longer be tied to only those books which are collecting dust in the book room. We can introduce students to novels that are current and relevant to their interests. This will also allow for greater sustainability by reducing the amount of books purchased while allowing for an ever changing curriculum as dictated by today's students.
