Sit, Stand, or Wobble: Choose How You Learn
Funded Nov 6, 2016Thank you so much for contributing so that my students can have alternative seating during class. The students are using the stools and desks to create a better learning environment. Some students use the stools as a more engaging seat during instruction. Others use the stools and desks simultaneously during practice. Mixing up the routine in the class has increased their engagement and their ability to take ownership of their own learning.
When the students first saw the stools and desks, they were thrilled. They had been struggling to gather around a whiteboard and problem solve with our old clunky furniture. The stools are lightweight and easily movable. The stools also look like giant dumbbells, so there was a humorous moment when a few boys pretended to lift giant weights. This moment passed, and they got to work!
My students are diligently working towards success on their AP Calculus test in May. This is a group effort and the new furniture helps us collaborate in a fun, safe, and new way.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

Calculators for the Inquiry Based Classroom!
Funded Dec 28, 2015These calculators have opened the students eyes to the behavior of functions in Integrated Math Level III. On the old calculators, curves were pixilated and graphs seemed rigid. Multiple graphs blurred together and it was difficult to see their differences. On the new calculators, functions come to life as smooth, colorful curves with different patterns and behavior. The students are blown away by the graphics and are surprised every day by newly discovered functionality.
The network connection system has made student participation seamless. Students can give their ideas and opinions through the surveying software, and I can project individual calculator screens onto the board. This helps me assess and address student understanding much more quickly.
Some students borrow the new calculators when they take the SAT. Some of them commented how they feel so "fancy" compared to other students using black and white calculators.
The new calculators are a source of pride for my students. Thank you SO MUCH for your generosity. Our classroom is a different, more dynamic place!”

Bigger Math = Bigger Whiteboards
Funded Dec 18, 2011Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom project "Bigger Math=Bigger Whiteboards." My students had been looking forward to the arrival of the big whiteboards and whiteboard markers so they no longer would have to erase precious, useful scratch work before embarking on a more formal solution. Just yesterday, students were able to analyze a function with a chart AND graph the function all within the same engaging writing surface! Without you, this wouldn't be possible.
Some students have taken the whiteboards outside after school to work on homework. Students are also now able to ask me questions about their work from all the way across the classroom! I can't wait to see what other unexpected uses the whiteboards will bring.
Thank you again for your contribution! You rock!”

More Room for Math!
Funded Apr 5, 2011Words cannot really describe how much a new whiteboard has already benefited my classroom. The whiteboard came just in time for the AP exam, and students were solving problems side by side in what seemed like an infinite amount of space. It also came with some unanticipated benefits. I am now able to help students find their error from across the room while I help a different student at their desk. It gives me the ability to be in 2 places at once!
Now that the AP Exam is over, my Geometry students are getting ready for the state exams. We use it to keep track of our progress, work on tough problems, and communicate with each other.
Thanks again for contributing to our success this year and for years to come!”

TI-89 Calculators for Los Angeles AP Calculus Class
Funded Sep 22, 2010I wanted to express my thanks again for your support in helping my students get calculators. It was a simple idea for them to each use their own calculator during class, but this simple luxury has caused an unexpected happiness from each student who gets to type in problems on their own and not have to share. My students are already developing more complex skills for Calculus on their calculators. They are also developing a deeper confidence in themselves to use the calculators towards their advantage. Before, the calculator would often be the only reason why they got problems wrong, now it is helping them explore math on a deeper level with the graphing function and the table function.
I am amazed at how much you all cared for us, and I will never forget the generosity you showed me and my students. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!
We <3 our Calculators!!!!!!!”
