  • FLASH! Music at Your Fingertips!

    Funded Nov 30, 2020

Thank you so very much for supporting my students and me with your generous gifts. I had hoped that all of my students would have been able to return from the pandemic break, but many are still learning via virtually.

The flash drives that you have helped purchase will not go unused, however! There is always next year and we have plans to return to a full schedule of events at our school.

You would be amazed at the talent our students possess at our Visual and Performing Arts magnet (grades K-6)!

We have plans to continue our All Star Choir in the new school year and students' music for at-home rehearsal will be downloaded to the jumpdrives. Also, we will be doing Beauty and the Beast - these jump drives will help in rehearsal music for the production as well.

And the best part is they are reusable! I can download new music for future musicians.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. B

  • O Say Can We Sing!

    Funded Jan 23, 2020

Thank you my Beta Brothers for helping me make sure my All Star Choir makes it to the Redbirds game in April! They will be singing The Star Spangled Banner at the 11am game on the 27th. A road trip to Memphis could be fun!!

  • Speaker Seeker II

    Funded Jul 29, 2019

Speaker Seekers II has been fully funded! Thank you so much for helping fulfill this project. Let the music be heard!!!

Marion Visual and Performing Arts Magnet Music students will put this speaker to good use. The speaker will allow more flexibility in rehearsals as well as in classroom instruction time. Plus, the second speaker will allow more versatility with music being heard throughout the school. From the Entrance to the Gym, Music will be heard at VPA!

The students have already been enjoying the better quality of sound that they are hearing from rehearsal CDs and listening tracks. It's amazaing how much difference a speaker can make.”

  • ALL STAR CHOIR KEEPING IT TOGETHER

    Funded Aug 14, 2019

Thank you for your continued support of music in public education and for helping me give my students these binders which will be of great assistance to the students who are selected to participate in this year's All Star Choir. The choir is made up of students from grades 5 and 6. Students in 5th and 6th grades are talented, fun and often forgetful and a bit messy. These binders will help my awesome Choir students be more organized and keep up with music as we are learning songs for performance.

Life skills, like keeping things organized, go hand in hand with being a good musician. It is my hope that these binders will encourage my students to become more organized and hence more successful contributors to society at large. I want the VPA Choir students to feel confident and look as good as they sound!

For many of these students this is their first experience of being in a performance group and having a binder will help them be responsible for keeping up with such a valued resource. It is my hope that given the tools to be successful, positive character traits can be developed that can change a student for life. I hope to help my students not only be good musicians but also responsible citizens.

    Thank you again.”

  • Our Music Classroom Needs To Be enLIGHTened!

    Funded May 24, 2018

It is difficult to put in to words the impact these lights have made in my room. IT IS AWESOME!

Installation of the lights presented an issue because I am in my classroom teaching all day. However, this past Friday was a Professional Development day and while I was out our school electricians came in and installed the lights. I walked in this morning to find a transformed classroom!

I am excited...the kids are excited...a PERFECT combination for success in our Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School.

The lights help set an atmosphere of "this is the music room and we do music here". Not only that, it gives the sense that WE ARE SPECIAL. I've NEVER seen these lights in any room before - I can't tell you how excited we are at VPA to have this extra touch to our room.”

  • On the Dot...Ready to Learn!

    Funded Aug 18, 2018

MY OH MY!!! Kinders sure are an active bunch and I have never had to teach them on a daily basis! Thanks to these sit spots my "wiggle worms" are a bit less wiggly. It's amazing how giving a child control of his/her own spot gives them a responsibility that they take very seriously!

Not only that, for those kinders who choose not to use the sit spots the correct way, they loose the privilege of using it for a few minutes and that really teaches some of them a quick lesson in actions/consequences - none of which I had in mind when I asked for these little gems!

My kindergarten classes have gone from chaos to ALMOST orderly. LOL.

The students love the smooth feel of the plastic dots and the bright colors are their favorites. Some are still learning not to cry when they don't get "their" color, but that's what kindergarten is all about...learning how to do school.

I see seven kinder classes in a 6 week cycle and currently we are learning some action songs that require the students to sit, stand, march, jump and clap along with different songs - all while staying on their spot! Their getting better and better each week. Thanks for your help as young voices continue to sing and soar!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. B

  • Magic Carpet Ride in Music

    Funded May 9, 2018

In the few short weeks that school has been in session this rug has already been a life saver!!! Not only am I able to use it as a teaching tool but also as a way to keep my students organized. :-)

I never dreamed that teaching younger children would be such an inviting challenge, but they are so eager to come into the music classroom and learn whatever I have to share with them. This rug has allowed me to keep my students on task and focused on our lessons, especially my kindergarten students,

All of my students, K-6, responded positively to the colorfulness of the rug and the soft texture. It is very good quality and I expect it to last a long time...I may even try to get another one for the other end of my room (I have a double room!).

Currently the entire school is learning about the Blues and each class is writing its own Blues song. Our hope is to do an end of sememester presentation using these student creations to demonstrate how our school is similar to the Mississippi River, which is where we live. The rug is helpful in that it keeps the creative juices flowing, just like the Mighty Mississippi.”

  • Loud and Clear

    Funded Apr 9, 2009

Thank you for your help in making share that our request for a handheld wireless microphone was fulfilled. It has already prove to be a great help and I am looking forward to using it again as soon as school begins.

The purchase of the mic was made just in time for us to use in our Fifth Grade Spring Program. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band never sounded so great! Our Honor Choir was also able to enjoy using the mic during their annual Spring Concert as well.

Thanks again for your help and in making our students have a meaningful, successful experience with their performances this Spring. I look forward to many more students and programs in the future!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. B

I teach K - 6 grade music at our district's newly formed visual and performing arts magnet school. We are a bedroom community of Memphis,TN and therefore are constantly growing. There are over 700 students in our school. Quick growth has created equipment needs that cannot all be met at one time.
