Our school does not have the resources to provide adequate access to technology. The majority of my students do not have computers or the internet at home either. My students would benefit from having the opportunity to use Chromebooks as a regular part of their school day, researching and collaborating on science and social studies projects, using Khan Academy or Zearn to support math, and conferring in reading and writing. My class is so excited right now because a few of my kids came up with the idea to create book reviews that can be posted on the school library page. They often come up with great ideas like this, but we don’t have enough Chromebooks to implement their plans. That is why I am asking for help. Having Chromebooks in our classroom gives students the opportunity to share their ideas in a variety of creative ways, collaborate on projects, learn the responsibilities of digital citizenship, and have the technological experience needed for their future. One project that fourth graders look forward to is researching their favorite person from Colorado history and creating a Living History Museum where they get to "become" that person and share their learning with other students and their families. They are able to collaborate using Google Classroom and make sure their resources are cited using Google Research or EasyBib. We also use technology to research the planets in our solar system and create an info graphic comparing and contrasting their planet with another planet.
