  • Word Shakers

    Funded Aug 5, 2019

Thank you for supporting this project. Our school is very grateful. The Book Thief class set will be a welcome addition to our school, and our 8th grade students will love having a copy to read as we study this time in history. Your generosity is much appreciated; thank you for supporting education and literacy.”

  • Project Sandwich - A Summer Stash

    Funded Mar 9, 2019

I do not believe any child should go hungry, and thanks to your generous support, students at our school do not have to. When Project Sandwich began at our school in late August, we had six students signed up to receive bags. Within a few days, those six quickly rose to 32.

Each Friday (or the last school day of the week), twelve and thirteen year old students in my Speech/Public Speaking class prepare "Friday Bags" for students at our school who may not otherwise have a reliable food source. In each of those bags, they include items for two breakfasts, two lunches, and snacks. Students pick these bags up from the counselors office, and each I have been able to help pass them out on a few occasions. Each time, the students who are getting the bags are so thankful, and immediately begin digging in the bags. I have heard comments such as, "I'm saving this for Saturday!"... "I've always wanted to try one of these."......"I can't believe there's so much food in her!"

Not only does Project Sandwich help the hungry students at our school, it also has helped students in my Speech Class. They always ask if we will be doing our bags on our "short weeks." They also want to put in more food than we can afford to! In addition, they have learned not everyone starts the day on the same footing, and that we all have

    our own struggles to overcome.

Thank you for giving our hungry students a hand-up, and for allowing the students who assemble the bags to show leadership and learn more about being empathetic to their peers.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bamburg

  • Supplies for Success

    Funded Mar 20, 2019

Thank you for helping us reach yet another goal as we work to support students who need a little extra hand-up. Thanks to your support, students at my school will be able to finish 4th quarter a little easier knowing they have access to all the supplies they need. Many of the items purchased through this project will also last much longer than this school year, so will help others next year.”

    With gratitude,

I teach advanced 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English Language Arts, English I, English II, and Speach and Debate. After school hours, I coach the school archery team and oversee the yearbook staff. These students come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, native languages, and academic and social abilities. They are a mix of boys and girls from 6th grade through 8th grade. Some are very outgoing, while many are still finding their voice. Regardless of all of these differences, they have many things in common. They are curious, they want to learn, they want to participate, and they want to be a part of something larger than themselves. These students are our future. I want to expose them to as many ideas and experiences as I can to help foster their academic and social growth, and encourage them to keep being curious about the world around them.
