  • Drawing Portraits of Orphans in Different Countries With Memory Project!

    Funded Oct 6, 2020

Students have gotten so much out of drawing orphan portraits, learning about the country, learning about how to draw portraits and they are also participating in a community service project with another country with students their own age and younger.

The Memory project is a wonderful organization and I am so glad to be participating with them even during the pandemic. Thank you for your contribution to make this project come to live for my students. Your help made this project possible and I wanted to personally thank you.”

    With gratitude,

  • Orphans in Syria Portraits Drawn by Students in America!

    Funded Sep 21, 2020

Thank you for helping fund this wonderful service learning project for my students. With your contributions the project will go ahead soon and students will learn about a different country. They will learn also how to draw portraits on a computer and give these to the orphans to keep and treasure.

The district will not fund this project so going outside the district with Donors Choose is how we can participate. Drawing a person is getting to know them intimately and barriers will be broken as students see that orphans in another country are no different than they are. Thank you for your support so we can go ahead with this project.”

  • Learning Virtually with Tools for Checking for Understanding!

    Funded Sep 21, 2020

Thank you for funding Zoom Pro for the school year. It has been a blessing having polling to check for understanding and giving me feedback on what students understand and what I need to reteach to help students understand the assignments.

This was funded quickly and I needed months ago. Over the summer I had training on using Zoom Pro only to find out the district I worked for was using another platform and the training was wasted. I have used everyday and distance learning and used the polling every day as well. It has enriched the class I teach in distance learning. Thank you so much!”

  • Another Media to Learn for Distant Learning Art Class

    Funded Aug 1, 2020

Thank you for funding watercolor colors and brushes so each student will have their own paint set in distant learning, hybrid learning and when we go back into the classroom since students can't share art supplies during the pandemic. I have kept the plastic watercolor box set and only needed the watercolor colors to save money. I'm so glad I did that over the last 5 years. The paint plastic box just needs to be washed and then the new paints and brushes put in each and it's a new set of paints.

Watercolor painting was the top choice students wanted to learn. The paint sets did not get here in time for students to get them when they picked up their books the first day of school. This county all the schools are in distant learning so when we go back to hybrid learning painting with watercolors will be the first project.

Thank you for your generosity and support of giving students an opportunity this year to try a new media.”

  • Safe, Sturdy, Home for Tools During Distant Learning!!

    Funded Aug 19, 2020

Thank you for helping fund sturdy plastic bags for art supplies during distrant and hybrid learning. Since students can't share supplies having their own art supplies and a strong plastic container to keep them in will help them alot. Students will learn how to take care of their supplies and have a place for them in their backpacks.

I'm excited to take out the supplies I have for each of my students and put in these plastic bags with zippers. They look like they can stand being thrown in and out of backpacks. Teaching students how to take care of tools and keep them in one place, organized is a skill students need to learn.

For my students 90% who don't have a lot this is a nice thing to give them that will be functional and make them feel good about themselves that they have what they need to do their art projects. Thank you for helping fund this for my students at this title one school. They will appreciate these I know!”

    With gratitude,

  • Combining Art & Literacy in Distance Learning!

    Funded Aug 8, 2020

The package arrived Wednesday and students picked up their art packets Thursday, (today) in time for distance learning starting this Monday. Now with the blank books they can make & illustrate flip books, the blank cards and envelope they can write an illustrate a card to essential workers, and with the blank business cards the digital art class can make their own logo and business cards. Having the blank materials/templates to give them, to illustrate, will be great for the rest of the semester art projects. They now have the materials at home to do the art projects I assign.

Thank you for supporting art in distant learning for this title one school. Students will be able to now have a rich art curriculum with some beautiful results I am sure.Thank you for your kindness and generosity.”

  • Basic Art Supplies to Send Home for Distant Learning!

    Funded Jul 31, 2020

Thank you for supporting scissors for all students and black permanent markers for all students during distant learning at this title one school. These supplies will be used by all my art and digital art students this year during distant learning and hopefully then during hybrid learning.

The pictures have no students in them since I haven't seen students during distant learning. They are picking up the art supplies next week when they pick up their other books. The one time they are at school!

Having scissors for art project are essential tools and I am glad to have them for all students. I have art projects that require cutting and also having a black marker for this first art project of putting designs on their sketchbooks is an essential item for them to have to complete this assignment. Thank you for supporting the art students at my school as they will appreciate now having the tools for their art education at home. Thank you for your help!”

I see 150 students a day, ages 11-14; boys & girls. Students are in the school uniform of white top and dark bottoms every day. Most students are clean, young, eager & happy. In return I feel I want to keep that purity and innocence and give them a strong art program with fun, exciting projects. I mix in math ; English, history with the art so they are becoming stronger creative thinkers with technology while learning some core subjects. They are "teenagers" and emotional. They are in the in between child and young adult. They are very impressionable and with most of my students working n clay, using watercolors, drawing on cloth, using iPads, using oil pastels; it's their first experience and they are really excited to try. Some come from not ideal home situations, some students are homeless, live in group homes, live with relatives and school is the one constant for them. At school they are all equals.
