  • My Family Cookbook Written, Illustrated and Made by Me!

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Students are very thrilled to have a hard cover blank book to make their family cookbook. This is a very special project and they are rushing to start it and finish it for the holidays as a present for their mother. Thank you for funding this so quickly so students can work on them now. Once the project was funded within 4 days the books were shipped and received.

Some students have chosen to make theme cookbooks of recipes from the games they play and this one particular student loves to draw characters from this video game. It should be a lovely book when she is finished. Students will keep these hand made cook books for a long time and use when they are older.

Thank you for your help in making this project possible.”

Thank you for funding folders/portfolios for student's to decorate and use for the semester to keep their artwork, worksheets in and to be organized. All their art class work will be in one place traveling from home to school.

Students have been decorating their art class folders this week with glitter glue. Thank you for supporting the arts at this title one school. Students would not have folders to decorate without the Donors Choose grant that you helped fund. Thank you for this donation that funds classroom basics.”

We have gotten 4 photos of each orphan and students will start learning about the country and how to draw portraits.

  • Title 1 School Drawing Portraits & Connecting with African Orphans!

    Funded Aug 15, 2021

Thank you for supporting drawing African orphans from Sierra Leone. We will start this project in January once The Memory Project sends us the photographs of the children. We are very excited to start this project especially as we are including African art in the curriculum for students of color that make up about 10% of the art class.

Thank you for supporting this worthwhile project for students here in the United States connecting with orphans in Sierra Leone with portraits they draw of them.”

  • Title I School Drawing Portraits for Orphans in Sierra Leone

    Funded Jul 30, 2021

Thank you for funding drawing orphan portraits for orphans in Sierra Leone. We do this project every year and each year it is the most important project we do with students giving their drawings to orphans in different countries.

We would not be able to do this project without DonorsChoose funding. Thank you for your help in making this project a go. We will start this project in January as I get funding for each student to draw their own orphan. I have a classroom wall of portraits done by students each year from countries around the world. This is an art project were students learn to draw portraits, learn geography, connect with a student in a different country and the results is an orphan gets their portraits drawn by an American student. It's the best for all participants and your donation make this possible.”

  • Wow! My Own Art Supplies for in Person Art Class!

    Funded Jul 29, 2021

Thank you for supporting students getting their own art supplies and a mesh bag for them to keep their supplies in. I'm so glad that I can now get this packet together for them to received their first day of school and we can get started creating right away. So much is lost not having a creative outlet and not the right materials.

Having their own materials will be necessary for students as they cannot share supplies this year. Students at this title one school will get their own art supplies to keep when there is no extra money at home for most students to get their own things.

Your donation made this possible for these students and I thank you for your donations to bring this project to fruition sooner than I expected.”

  • Displaying Students Art they Created about Black History Month!

    Funded May 12, 2021

Thank you for funding the materials to display students "Black History month" artwork during distance learning. There were 4 boxes of different color boards, laminating plastic to go over their art work to protect them and spray adhesive. Everything that was ordered was perfect and used.

I printed their artwork from their digital portfolios online, on the school color printer I have at home in distance learning. The colors were outstanding and the mat boards brought out the color in their artwork. Students got to keep these drawings they did for "Black History month" in distance learning.

Thank you for your support of displaying students art that they created in Black History Month. I also made a virtual art show of their work and shared this with families as well.

Without your financial support we could not have displayed their work.

    Thank you!”

  • Exchanging Drawings With Nigerian Kids & Practicing Anti-Racism With Art!

    Funded Apr 21, 2021

Thank you for funding this rewarding project for students at this title one school. They got so much out of learning about Nigeria and then drawing art to send to students in Nigeria. Students told me it was their favorite project. We could not have done this project without Donors Choose funding.

22% of the art students are African American and it meant a lot to them to study African art and then to connect with Nigerian students by exchanging their drawings. They also got to keep the Nigerian students drawings. I hope to do this project next year with students in Africa as it adds a kindness to the art class which is needed with middle school students..

Thank you for your support in practicing anti-racism with art.”

Right now these 15 students are getting their membership cards and will be making face mask designs for the local preschool students as their first community service project. Thank you for supporting arts and talented art students to have more experience with the arts.”

  • Quality, Inclusive art Program for all in Distance Learning!

    Funded Dec 30, 2020

Thank you for funding colorful art instruction pages that will make a book for students in distance learning. I have sent out the first page with the spring packets and I am waiting for all the students to pick up their packets at school before starting to work on this small colorful book.

The first page they are getting is learning how to mix color with color pencils. Blending colors with color pencils. Students are also getting a set of color pencils with the spring packet and will now be able to have each materials and worksheets to complete a stimulating art program even in distance learning.

Thank you for your support of this project to be done in distance learning making an exciting program for students at this title one school that would not have this opportunity otherwise.

    Thank you for your generosity.”

I see 150 students a day, ages 11-14; boys & girls. Students are in the school uniform of white top and dark bottoms every day. Most students are clean, young, eager & happy. In return I feel I want to keep that purity and innocence and give them a strong art program with fun, exciting projects. I mix in math ; English, history with the art so they are becoming stronger creative thinkers with technology while learning some core subjects. They are "teenagers" and emotional. They are in the in between child and young adult. They are very impressionable and with most of my students working n clay, using watercolors, drawing on cloth, using iPads, using oil pastels; it's their first experience and they are really excited to try. Some come from not ideal home situations, some students are homeless, live in group homes, live with relatives and school is the one constant for them. At school they are all equals.
