  • Cool Coding a Robot Chain Reaction

    Funded Apr 30, 2018

Thank you for supporting technology, learning coding in the digital art classes at this title one school were students are at a disadvantage coming from homes with little technology.

Botley the coding robot was a huge hit in the digital art classes at the end of the year and we hope to get more so each student will have a beginning coding experience with this hands on robot. I am planning the curriculum for next year and Botley will begin the coding unit. Thank you again for your support of STEAM in the digital art classroom. This has increased the resources that the school would not have otherwise.”

  • Using Technology & Science for 3D Botanical Illustration!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for funding the 3Doodler 3 D pens for the digital art class to now be able to use them to make plants they are studying in their science classes. It takes botanical illustration to a new 3D level and they are excited to try this new technology combining science, art and technology. This is a great experience for students at this title one school and opening up new ways to draw in real 3 dimensions. Thank you for all your generosity in funding every project on Donors Choose. Very exciting and I am so grateful this project got funded as well. New horizons for everyone thanks to your generosity and looking to the future: educating our children!”

  • iPad Pro, iPencil and iCan STEAM ahead with Technology

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for funding a new iPad Pro and Apple pencils. We have iPads but the larger screen and the synced Apple pencil really make drawing on the iPads more accurate. Students at this title one school now have the chance to each try the latest technology in a creative digital art class. Students are using these for green screen and next 3d printing drawings. The color on the screens is close to what we can color print. I hope to use these for several years until the next technology makes them obsolete.

Thank you again for funding this project and all the projects that got funded in one day!!”

  • Art Books to Encourage Bookmaking, Reading & Writing about Art

    Funded Mar 17, 2018

Thank you for supporting this project with bringing books into the art room with a new bookshelf and art books that are new, colorful, current and about art. I just set it up and already the students in the classroom are reading the books and looking at the illustrations. We will be starting making board books for the local preschool and having books as examples will improve the books the students will write and illustrate.

I've always wanted to have an area with books available and part of the art curriculum and thanks to this project that is now possible in the art room. Integrating art with other subjects is a win win for students. Thank you from all the students that will now have books in art as well as their academic classes.”

  • Building Math Bridges with S-team Art & Technology Project

    Funded Dec 30, 2017

Thank you for our new iPad Pro and 10 Russian orphan portraits with the Memory Project, for the students to draw and send to Russia next Monday. The classes have been learning about Russia, Russia art and making Penske eggs in celebration of Russia culture.

Thank you for funding students using technology to create their Russian portraits on. The portraits are due March 15th and students are taking what they have learned about Russia and drawing the portraits with Russian art in the background. Some students are using the iPad to draw their Russian orphan portraits and the people that deliver the portraits say the kids love seeing the portraits that are made on the iPads as long as they are recognizable.

Without donations for funding the Memory project, students would not have had a chance to do this service learning project. It's hard to say who gets more out of this the orphans that get their portraits or the students that make their portraits.”

  • Applied Science: Inventing, Moving Constructions on a Lego Wall

    Funded Jan 1, 2018

Thank you for your donations of Lego books, a Lego cabinet for their pieces and more construction Lego pieces so students can build movable lego constructions on the Lego wall. They have been building colorful, movable contraptions. Each day some students asks to build on the Lego wall and they add something new, something different.

School Arts magazine will feature our class lego wall in 2018 with an article I wrote about the Lego wall and your help and donation made it possible for students to have enough different pieces that they can use creatively and have fun building. It's a wall of "teaching for artistic behavior" and a S.T.E.A.M. wall that fully uses the A for art and creativity.

Know you made a difference as most of these students do/did not have Lego/Lego walls at home and now they can play and build on the Lego wall and hopefully make the connections to their other subjects with practicing thinking outside the box and using their minds creatively in every day life.

Thank you for making this possible. Without your contribution there would be less to build with and less possibilities.

    Sincerely.”

  • Warm Socks Are Essentials No Child Should Be Without.

    Funded Dec 16, 2017

Thank you for donating and helping students who needed warm clothing receive warm socks. I am currently passing them out to those who need them most. We also have sweatshirts and scarfs I picked up at Target. I see students wearing the clothes that were given to them through Donors Choose and you have to know you made a difference in these young peoples lives. They look warm and taken care of and not abandoned. They are happy to have something new and colorful to wear especially this time of year when it is cold and wet out.

We had to order the socks through REI because they were out of stock at the first vendor. The socks from REI are warm and sturdy and I made sure colorful as well. We actually got more and better quality through REI that makes clothes for the outdoors.

Thank you again for donating money for socks for students that really can't afford good quality socks. There feet will be warm and that little bit does help.”

  • Kindness By Creating a Board Book about Kindness for Kids

    Funded Nov 22, 2017

Thank you donors for the 120 board books. We started the project on Wednesday. My friends and I put each students name on the spine of the book from a list of names the teacher gave us. I passed the board books out to my class yesterday. We are making them for the preschool next to our school. The preschool teacher gave us a list of students names and ages so we can write a book using their names. Some students are making books about kindness, color, alphabet books and word books and story books.

The first thing I am telling my classmates to do is write the title page then the next five pages in pencil so if they make a mistake they can erase it easily. Then they will go over the words and pictures in sharpie then watercolor.

The preschool kids are coming over a week from Friday. It will be so much fun to give them their books made by us teenagers. We can keep some and some we are giving to the preschoolers.

I hope they like my book. I am going to make really colorful.

Thank you for helping us do this project. I think I am going to read my book to the preschooler when I give it to her.

My friends want you to know we really are grateful for your help with this project.”

  • Warm Sweatshirts Will Make the World Seem Warmer!

    Funded Nov 29, 2017

Thank you for funding warm, bright, colorful sweatshirts for students in need at my school. There are 85% living in poverty and the sweatshirts will go to the ones in most need of new clothing. There are homeless students at this school, students in group homes, students living in poverty and students new to the country who will benefit from having a new warm sweatshirt. Now that it is getting colder this will be more than essential for them to have this gift. The holiday times make it even more special to get this necessary gift to them. 45 students will now benefit from this Donors Choose donation.

I am waiting until we receive all the sweatshirts and the last week before holiday vacations to hand them out to the students. I will work with the principal matching most in need with the right size. Know you have made a huge difference for these students. Having something, new, warm and comfortable with a hood will make a child feel comfortable and secure, make this child happier and the world easier to navigate. Being cold is hard and especially if you are a child.

Many heart felt thanks for your support of this project.”

  • Kindness, Understanding, Empathy with Drawing & giving Portraits to Orphans

    Funded Nov 15, 2017

There was a change to the project and we started with Syrian orphans and then we will do the Russian orphans. The Memory project is delivering our pictures to Syria in February and to Russia in June. My friends and I made a "cheat sheet" sort of facts about Syria and each of us explained it to a different class. Students ask me what the flag from Syria looks like and what to draw in the background. I loved doing this project and explaining it to my friends in the class. I will remember doing this and I hope the orphans like our pictures the classes are drawing. Some students are making them on the iPads. The teacher will mail these at the end of December. Thank you for helping us to be able to do this project. I can't wait to see the video of them getting my picture.”

I see 150 students a day, ages 11-14; boys & girls. Students are in the school uniform of white top and dark bottoms every day. Most students are clean, young, eager & happy. In return I feel I want to keep that purity and innocence and give them a strong art program with fun, exciting projects. I mix in math ; English, history with the art so they are becoming stronger creative thinkers with technology while learning some core subjects. They are "teenagers" and emotional. They are in the in between child and young adult. They are very impressionable and with most of my students working n clay, using watercolors, drawing on cloth, using iPads, using oil pastels; it's their first experience and they are really excited to try. Some come from not ideal home situations, some students are homeless, live in group homes, live with relatives and school is the one constant for them. At school they are all equals.
