  • Make It Rain Paper!

    Funded Oct 24, 2019

I can't say thank you enough for allowing my students the opportunity to maximize their learning! Through the resource of paper you've provided, I've been able to make learning and activities even more engaging than they were. The students have loved the "Crazy colors". They get excited when we have a project or activity because it's on colorful paper and it draws them into the activity.

We have been able to use the paper most recently in our "Holiday Celebrations Around the World" lessons by creating Dreidels on the blue paper that they were able to learn the Jewish game and play it; and the green paper was great for Christmas trees. It saved us time in coloring that would have previously taken a lot longer, however, having the colorful paper helped preserve our academic time on task. The kids have really enjoyed this study and have been able to learn a lot more information because of the time saved with not having to color each page.

I'm truly grateful for the paper and learning you've allowed for my students! They are excited to see what they will be working on next on the fun paper. I know they will continue to focus on their best work because of the time saved! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Taylor

  • Bringing Technology to Town

    Funded Mar 18, 2019

I can't say thank you enough for allowing my students the opportunity to maximize their learning! Through the technology you've provided, I've been able to walk around the room as we implement programs on the board. It has helped curb behaviors within our room and allows me the chance to interact with my students while using technology. My students (younger kiddos) love how "shiny" the Surface Go 10 is. They love seeing how new and quick it works.

In our room we use several different programs, like Kahoot and Reflex Math. The Surface Go 10 is very fast and effective in engaging the students. When we're using Kahoot (a trivia based assesment/game) my students need the quick response time that the Go 10 provides. It helps them see where they made their mistakes or where they were successful in real time!

I've loved using the Surface Go 10 with me higher level thinkers, because I've been able to challenge them and allow them to explore and research more independently. It has sparked a desire in some of my students that has truly surprised me. My kids are so grateful that they get to use technology that not all of their peers are able to. It makes them understand the impact even more! I'm truly grateful for the technology and learning you've allowed for my students! Thank you!”

  • Science and Social Studies Magic!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I'm not sure I could ever tell you how thankful I am for your donations that allowed my students access to Science and Social Studies materials they would otherwise not have been able to use. They have loved the Earthquake simulator and have found it a challenge to get it to stand. It's been wonderful to see them using their problem solving skills to work out new ways for buildings to stand during an earthquake. They learned the importance of a strong foundation when "building".

The Build a Coaster activity has been an all time favorite for my students. They love working with angles and speed to solve each "roller coaster". I have had students this year ask when they are going to get to use it, because they heard how much fun it was last year for the other kids. I'm getting ready to introduce both of these resources to this group of kids and am excited to see them enjoy them, as well.

I have used these materials in our science centers and (more recently) in free time when the kids get excited about using them to work together. I see these activities as "equalizers", it allows my struggling students to have successes that their peers are having, too. My students have truly learned to work together in using these fun tools to learn science and social studies. Again, thank you for everything you've given my kids!”

    With gratitude,

  • Miss Taylor's Sensory Tools to Help Her Students Learn!

    Funded Mar 30, 2017

I first want to thank you for your generous donation to my class. We have used the resources in so many ways to assist in learning. Over the summer, I moved from a self-contained classroom, back to a general education classroom. I was a little worried that the resources would not be engaging for my new students, but with some creative thinking and child enthusiasm, we have been using the items purchased in our center time. It has been wonderful to see my kids use the items I purchased for my previous class, and still have it be an effective way of learning. We have used the magnetic letters and playdoh stampers to practice the spelling and vocabulary words each week, and the fidgets have shown to be effective for my kiddos that need a little extra help focusing.

When I introduced the materials this year, my kids were blown away by the amount of "fun" supplies we had to help practice reading and spelling! They are continually asking to use the items in their centers. The tactile letter matching puzzles have been a hit with my lower level learners. They are constantly asking to "play" with the letter matching game. It has been amazing to see the spark in some of my kids that previously struggled to be engaged. These new items have had such an impact on my students' learning. I cannot thank you enough for your support!

This year I am looking to purchase a stand for the swing I was able to get last year through your generosity. My new classroom does not have the support beams needed to hang it. My plan is to use it in my reading area. Reading is a huge part of my classroom, and I try to provide as many opportunities for my class to read as possible. I have about 2,000 books that I've bought throughout my 6 years of teaching that we use to practice fluency, comprehension, and other reading skills that are attained in 2nd grade. I am also looking at the possibility of flexible seating within my classroom, but I haven't quite decided on if that will be the most effective learning style for this group or not. Thank you, again for being a part of our class by supporting us through our year of learning together! I am truly amazed with how quickly my project was sponsored. Providing for my kids, who come from low-income households, has been such a blessing to them that I can't even describe. Thank you, and many blessings!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Taylor

Working in a classroom for students with Special Needs can be difficult, especially when your students are mainly non-verbal and have little-to-no reading skills. My assistants and I have struggled this year in trying to provide my students with a way to channel their energy to be more effective towards their learning. Each day I have seen my students grow, and know that these supplies will help to open the door for my students' communication and early literacy skills. Using the dough stampers, tactile letters, and magnetic alphabet sorter will help my students with sensory needs, by allowing them to "feel" and move the letters as they learn. The sensory swing will be a much needed outlet for my students when they need a short break from the academic content being learned. Just this year, one of my students has started to mimic, then speak, and now read words that we had been told wouldn't even be possible for at least a few years; simply by using tools like the ones listed in this project. The items I have listed, have been well thought out and hand-picked for use by all of the students in my room. I know that with these items, my students can grow exponentially from where they started at the beginning of the year to become beginner readers and more "verbal" students by the end of our school year and beyond. They have all made so many strides already, but, by supporting my classroom in this project, you will be enabling my kids to learn and communicate more effectively, when others have sold them short. I thank you for all of your support for any teacher, especially those who work with kids with Special Needs. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
