Working in a classroom for students with Special Needs can be difficult, especially when your students are mainly non-verbal and have little-to-no reading skills. My assistants and I have struggled this year in trying to provide my students with a way to channel their energy to be more effective towards their learning. Each day I have seen my students grow, and know that these supplies will help to open the door for my students' communication and early literacy skills. Using the dough stampers, tactile letters, and magnetic alphabet sorter will help my students with sensory needs, by allowing them to "feel" and move the letters as they learn. The sensory swing will be a much needed outlet for my students when they need a short break from the academic content being learned. Just this year, one of my students has started to mimic, then speak, and now read words that we had been told wouldn't even be possible for at least a few years; simply by using tools like the ones listed in this project. The items I have listed, have been well thought out and hand-picked for use by all of the students in my room. I know that with these items, my students can grow exponentially from where they started at the beginning of the year to become beginner readers and more "verbal" students by the end of our school year and beyond. They have all made so many strides already, but, by supporting my classroom in this project, you will be enabling my kids to learn and communicate more effectively, when others have sold them short. I thank you for all of your support for any teacher, especially those who work with kids with Special Needs. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
