Little Free Library for the Flushing Community
Funded Nov 15, 2021I would like to thank you and apologize. Thank you for supporting our little free library project and being so patient for the impact and photos of your donation in action. I want to apologize for it taking so long. When we first received the library, it needed to be assembled first. At the beginning of last year, returning to the classroom with students safely took priority over everything else. We were so fortunate to have a smooth and wonderful year.
During the year, I was able to assemble the library with my father and some supervising help from my 3 and 1 year old. This library was going someplace special so I wanted to make sure it was painted and decorated before it went out into our community. With the help of our speech therapist and artist, we were able to paint some very familiar characters on the library to make it welcoming and inviting.
When it was painted and ready to go, it took time to reach out to my old elementary school to get permission to put it up in the playground. Luckily, the principal loved the idea and we were able to install it recently. I've stocked the library twice and it seems like the community has taken to it well. Books are going into the homes of children in our community and that's what matters the most. My own son has donated some of his books to the library and I hope more will too.
Thank you so much for supporting this project and helping us bring books into the homes of families in our community.”

Funded Sep 20, 2022Thank you all so much for supporting us in "Battling the Winds of Winter." When October hit, the temperature in Northern Queens NYC dropped tremendously. We are used to warm temperatures until November but it seems like Winter will be coming earlier and it will be much more colder than the previous one. The winter gear along with raincoats were given out earlier than normal and has already been useful for our families. This morning had frigid rain that our kids were prepared for with their awesome new raincoats. As temperatures drop even lower, they will be suiting up to combat the cold with warm hats, scarves, and gloves. They will be able to brave the cold and snow thanks to your help and support. Thank you so much for your generous donation. Winter in Coming and our children will be staying warm and toasty in the cold and snow.”

Funded Aug 24, 2022Thank you for helping our Tiny Scientists View the World on a much bigger scale! Microscopes are such a powerful tool in the classroom. The only drawback is that only one curious mind can use it at a time. With a digital microscope, our kids are able to view things together and discuss what they observe on the big screen. These curious minds are able to work together and figure out how to adjust the microscope setting to get the clear picture...just like real scientists! They love experimenting with just what they can magnify on the digital microscope. The new organism specimens we've received are a great addition to our collection. We brought it out for the first time this week and so many of our kids were intrigued by what was inside those acrylic blocks. Thank you for making our room so much more scientific to develop these curious minds!”

As we move into the fall season, we are asking our inquisitive pre-Kers to bring in treasure left behind by nature and we will be observing all the wonderful things they bring in. Thank you for making our room so much more scientific to develop these curious minds!”

Funded Aug 19, 2022Thank you for giving our students so "Many Ways to Say Hello and Welcome!" September is coming to a close and we are done with the first month of school. All of our classrooms were able to read A Hundred Thousand Welcomes to kick off the school year in the most incredible way. This is our second year back in-person and we hope to help families and students feel comfortable and welcomed being back in the school building. Building strong ties and rapport with families is going to set the tone of the school year. Thank you all so much for supporting this project. The impact will last for many years to come as it will be a book that will be shared and read every September from now on! We are so grateful for your support!”

Funded Sep 15, 2022Our students have been in school for 4 weeks now. For some, it was their first school experience, and for many it was their first time being away from their families for an extended period of time. Our kids have knocked it out of the park and are doing wonderful things in our classroom.
There were first day jitters from parents, students, and teachers. With a return to somewhat normalcy, we are very confident that this year will be just as successful as last year's return to the classroom.
Our kids are getting used to the school schedule and routines. Things they are learning in school can be reinforced at home because of the supplies from this project. We are prepared to handle anything and everything even if that means some children needing to isolate due to COVID. I am confident that should there be a need, we can transition smoothly to a virtual setting and back in person. For now, we are all safe and happy and we hope to keep it that way until the end.
Thank you all so much for making the new beginnings a smooth one.”

Funded Aug 28, 2022In the photos of this Thank You Package, you will find pictures of children in different homes enjoying books they get to call their own. While some families added 5 books to their already growing library, there are many that just started their home library collection. These are books with characters they will grow to love and laugh about the adventures they will embark on. These are stories that will be read over and over until the point where the preschooler will have memorize every word on every page to the point where their parents will become shocked that they have a little reader on their hands. And they will. They will have a preschool reader. Your help is setting the foundation and the love of books. Your support has planted the seed of a reader that will grow into a future leader. Thank you so very much for giving our students that opportunity and that chance to love books and to love reading.
"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one."
Thank you for helping our kids start their journey of a thousand lives.”

Up to Date Tech for the Modern Classroom
Funded Mar 15, 2022Thank you so much for helping us keep our classroom technology up to date. The world of education has changed a lot since the beginning of the pandemic. In the past, I did my absolute best to keep screen device use very limited in my classroom. The year I taught students who were fully remote changed that philosophy. Technology can be an amazing asset when used purposefully.
Technology use doesn't only benefit students but families as well. When we're connected, our families are more engaged and informed of what's happening in their child's classroom. With the technology, I have been able to create resources such as detailed newsletters, videos, and edit photos for parents to see their child and what they're doing in the classroom.
The resources being used on our smart board contains beautiful pictures that include our very students and languages that our students are familiar with to help bridge the language barrier gap.
I am so grateful of your support in this project. The impact will be everlasting since we plan for technology to be part of our daily class routines.”

Funded May 6, 2022Thank you so very much for supporting our "Digital Art Gallery." So much learning and exploration in Pre-K is captured on camera and to be able to display these wonderful photos on our new Digital Art Gallery is such a unique experience for our students and their families. Imagine how much pride a young child feels when they see themselves or their work on the big screen. They absolutely LOVE it. Our parents are also proud of their child's work. The FRAME TV has been a wonderful and creative tool to engage our families in seeing what their child does in our classroom. Thank you so very much for making this pipe dream a reality! Recently, we posted our students' graduation portraits on the board just in time for our graduation celebration. Parents were so surprised to see these beautiful photos of their children on the gallery. This is a resource that will bring lots of joy and excitement to families and I cannot wait to see other ways we can utilize this Frame gallery in the future.”

Funded Dec 22, 2021Thank you so much for supporting our project, "Robots, Droids, & Machines With a Purpose!" This is one of the projects that impact our classroom the most however the materials are in action mostly during after school hours. Our classroom is full of action throughout the day and our kids are constantly moving around learning, playing, eating, and sleeping. As you could imagine, the floor gets filthy. Our kids do their best to keep the room clean with the hand vacuum, Swiffers, and dustpans. At the end of the day, so much is still left behind. Thanks to your support, that is no longer an issue. When the kids leave, the Droids come out to play. By morning, the robots have run out of juice but the job is done! Our kids come back and are amazed at how clean our room is. They're compassionate towards these machines because they help them keep the room clean so they're not being overworked. One child loves to bring the Roomba back to its dock to charge when he comes in in the morning. Thank you so much for helping us bring these machines into the classroom so our kids can learn and play in a clean room!”
