    Funded Aug 14, 2024

I'm writing to say a heartfelt thank you for your incredible generosity in supporting my project, "Tech Update Required! Technologies for Students, Teachers, and Parents!" Your donation has truly made a world of difference in our classroom.

With your help, we've been able to:

Shine a spotlight on our students: Our monthly newsletters have given our students a chance to showcase their talents and hard work. It's been amazing to see their confidence soar!

Connect with our diverse community: By translating our newsletters into multiple languages, we've been able to bridge language barriers and build stronger relationships with our families.

Streamline our work: Our new laptop has made our lives so much easier, allowing us to spend more time focusing on what truly matters: teaching and learning.

I'm so grateful for your support. It's people like you who make a real impact on the lives of our students. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.”

  • Recess Renaissance: Turning the Playground to Creative Grounds

    Funded May 22, 2024

Thanks to your generosity, we've introduced new grid/waffle blocks and giant brick blocks, and the response from our kids has been nothing short of amazing.

It was like a missing piece was put into place the moment we set up these blocks. Suddenly, recess has turned into a bustling hub of creativity. While some of our students still race to the soccer balls and jungle gym, we've seen a whole new group of builders emerge. They're out there every day, constructing everything from towering skyscrapers to cozy little houses, all from the blocks you helped provide.

And the buzz isn't just on the playground. Kids are stopping me in the halls to express their thanks. While I was the one who put up the project, it was your support that brought it to life. So, I'm passing along a big, heartfelt 'THANK YOU' from all of us here.

Your gift didn't just change the landscape of our playground—it's building teamwork, sparking imagination, and teaching our kids the joy of bringing their ideas to life. Thanks for believing in our project and in the power of play. We're all incredibly grateful.”

  • Fighting Food Waste: Mobile Cooler

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thanks to your generosity, we've made significant strides in reducing food waste at our school and supporting our community in meaningful ways.

Since the project's launch last summer, the mobile cooler has served as a vital resource, initially aiding in distributing food to the broader community. As the new school year started, we shifted focus to meet the needs of our own school families. Every day, uneaten but perfectly good food from breakfast, snacks, and lunch is collected and stored safely in the cooler. At dismissal, families in need are invited to take what they need. This initiative not only minimizes food waste but also ensures that nutritious food items reach the homes of those who might otherwise go without.

Your contribution has directly impacted our ability to tackle these two pressing issues simultaneously. This project has not only nourished bodies but also fostered a spirit of sharing and community that extends far beyond the school gates.

We wanted to let you know that your generosity is truly making a difference. Every item of food saved from waste and every family that takes food home is a testament to the power of thoughtful giving. Thank you for believing in our project and for your commitment to making our community a better place.”

  • Puppets of Positivity: Puppetfying Our School Community!

    Funded Mar 27, 2024

Thanks to your generosity, our school now boasts a lively cast of puppets, each one modeled after members of our school community. This innovative approach has deepened the bonds within our school walls.

By turning our teachers and staff into puppet characters, we've created a familiar and engaging world for our students. These puppets do more than just teach; they inspire and connect with our students on a personal level. Whether it's during a lesson or used in dramatic play, the joy and engagement from the students are palpable. They see these characters — playful versions of their own teachers and friends — and something wonderful happens. Learning becomes fun, and the messages about kindness, cooperation, and understanding truly resonate.

The magic of puppetry lies in its ability to bring stories to life in a way that captivates young minds. It's a tool that not only entertains but also educates, making complex emotions and social situations easier for children to navigate. Our students are not just passive listeners; they are active participants, eagerly interacting with the puppets, asking questions, and absorbing valuable life lessons.

These puppet interactions have also sparked a burst of creativity among our students. Encouraged by what they see, many have started crafting their own puppets, experimenting with storytelling, and exploring their artistic talents. It's a joy to see their imaginations light up as they work on their creations, knowing that a simple idea you helped fund is fostering such a rich and interactive learning environment.

Your support has done more than just enrich our teaching resources; it has helped cultivate a nurturing, creative, and empathetic school culture. We are seeing firsthand how an educational tool can also be a source of joy and a builder of community. The smiles, the laughter, and the creative buzz around our school are a testament to the lasting impact of your generosity.

Thank you again for your support. We are so grateful to have you as a part of our community, helping us turn creative ideas into impactful realities. Our puppet family is here to stay, continuing to teach and delight, all thanks to you.”

  • Celebrating Lunar New Year: House of the Dragon!

    Funded Dec 20, 2023

I want to to express our deepest gratitude for your generous support of our Lunar New Year project. Thanks to you, we were able to bring the vibrant and festive spirit of Flushing's Lunar New Year celebration right into our classroom, offering our students and their families an unforgettable experience.

Lunar New Year holds a special place in the heart of our community, and with your help, we were able to create a miniature version of the lively and colorful paradise that takes over the streets of Flushing, Queens, during this auspicious time. Your contribution played a crucial role in educating our kids about the rich traditions and cultural significance of the Lunar New Year.

The highlight of our celebration was the family events that saw an incredible turnout. Families came together to make red envelopes, create dragon puppets, and capture beautiful moments against the festive backdrops you helped us procure. These activities not only brought joy and excitement to our students and their families but also fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of the cultural heritage associated with Lunar New Year.

I cannot thank you enough for your support. Your generosity did not just bring our project to life; it propelled it beyond our expectations, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved. The success of our Lunar New Year celebration is a testament to the wonderful community of supporters like you, who believe in the importance of cultural education and the value of creating meaningful memories.

Thank you once again for your kindness and for helping us celebrate Lunar New Year in such a special and impactful way. We are incredibly grateful for your support and look forward to making more beautiful memories together in the future.”

  • Battling the Winds of Winter

    Funded Mar 8, 2024

I want to express our deepest gratitude for your generous support, which has brought not just hats, scarves, and gloves to our students but also a wave of comfort and smiles during the chilly embrace of winter.

Although the winter accessories arrived as the season was waning, Mother Nature had her own plans, bringing back the icy cold winds just in time for our children to benefit from your kindness. The unexpected return of winter's chill this spring allowed our students to don their new wolf hats, along with the scarves and gloves, fighting off the cold with both warmth and style. It was a sight to behold as our students, equipped with their new gear, confidently faced the cold, embodying the spirit of resilience and community support.

Your thoughtfulness has not only helped our kids combat the freezing temperatures but also provided them with essential accessories they can continue to use in the years to come. The joy and comfort these winter items have brought to our students are immeasurable, and for that, we are incredibly thankful.

Seeing our students proudly sporting their wolf hats has been a heartwarming reminder of the impact kindness can have. Your support has made a tangible difference in their lives, ensuring they remain warm and cozy during these unexpected cold snaps. It's comforting to know that as the seasons change, the warmth of your generosity continues to envelop our students.

As we eagerly await the true arrival of spring, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the warmth and support you have provided. Your generosity has not only equipped our students to face the cold but has also woven a thread of warmth and care through our community. For that, we thank you!”

  • "Stand Clear of the Closing Door, Please!"

    Funded Jan 11, 2024

We're over the moon to send you a huge thank you for making "Stand Clear of the Closing Door, Please!" our MTA trains project a reality! Your generosity has truly made a difference in our students' lives, and we can't thank you enough for your support.

This whole idea started with one student who's head over heels for the local 7 train. His love for it inspired us to bring the entire subway system into our classroom, and your donations made it happen. Now, our kids are having a blast exploring the subway world every single day!

Since the trains arrived, our classroom has been buzzing with excitement. The kids are on track to learning all about the subway system, and they're having a "train-tastic" time doing it! Your support has not only brought joy and fun into our classroom but also valuable learning experiences.

Thanks to you, our students are developing important skills like problem-solving and teamwork, all while having a blast with their new trains. They're becoming subway experts, all while having a "fare"-ly good time!

We can't express how grateful we are for your generosity. Your support has made a real difference in our students' lives, and we're "train-ing" them for a brighter future, one "track" at a time.”

  • I See Me in Our Class Library!

    Funded Aug 1, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous support of our DonorsChoose project, "I See Me in Our Class Library!" Your contribution has had a profound impact on our students, and I am incredibly grateful for your generosity.

Thanks to your support, our classroom library is now filled with books that serve as mirrors for our students. These books feature characters and cultures that reflect the diverse backgrounds of our students, allowing them to see themselves represented in the stories we read. This simple yet powerful act has helped create a welcoming and inclusive environment in our classroom, showing our students that they and their families are valued and appreciated in our school community.

The impact of your donation goes far beyond the books themselves. It has helped our students transition into the school setting with greater ease and confidence. Seeing themselves reflected in the books we read has boosted their sense of belonging and identity, making them feel more connected to their classmates and their learning environment.

Your support has made a tangible difference in the lives of our students, and I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and generosity. Your contribution has not only enriched our classroom library but has also enriched the hearts and minds of our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Andy

http://kinderheim.weebly.com/ A place for my reflections on teaching and life beyond teaching. I consider every child I taught art, subbed for, had for the year, to be my student. I have eighteen curious four year-old students in my pre-kindergarten class and older ones who walk pass my door and wave hello because I've made their day at some point. I also have future students who aren't old enough to be in school yet, but one day, they will. I teach and live in a tight community where when I walk down the street I will most likely bump into a family I know. Most of the children come from immigrant families who value education greatly. Most are from households who have two hard working parents who do their best to provide the best quality of life for their children. I have been blessed with the opportunity to give their child the best, and I have no intentions of giving anything less.
