Funded Jan 26, 2018Thank you for your donations that you so graciously provided for my students! We were able to utilize the resources to create our interactive notebooks, which really helped the students in my self-contained special education class visualize the content that was being taught to them in a new way. We were also able to use the materials, to create anchor charts and time lines to display during our end of unit celebration. The students were especially excited to hear that we had plenty of boxes that were in the main office that needed to be brought up to our classroom. When I explained to that that the materials we were getting were provided by people who were invested in their educational success and achievements, they did not understand why people who did not know them would give them anything at all.
As the boxes were being brought up and into our classroom, the students were overjoyed. The were happy that they had notebooks and pencils, since many of them were in desperate need of new notebooks. When I unpacked the boxes with the document reader and the document cart, they were happy that they could finally all see at once on the smart board what I was writing in my notebook and workbooks, without me having to walk around the classroom showing them individually. They were eager to tell the principal and the assistant principal, and anyone who would listen what we as a class had received supplies by "strangers" who wanted to help them be successful in school.
As we are moving towards the end of the state testing season, the students will begin to read novels such as "Holes" and "The Lemonade Was". Due to the fact, that we don't have a complete class set of these novels, the document reader will come in handy to display the books to the whole class. The materials will also help us to create fold-ables and charts, that showcase our learning from the novels we will be reading. The students are at ease knowing that their school supply needs have been met until the end of the school year, without worrying have they will get the supplies that they need when their parents are unable to meet these needs.
Thank you for showing my students that kindness does exist in the world, and that with equal parts of gratitude and perseverance they can go far in this life!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. H-M
