  • AVID Reading Room

    Funded Jan 26, 2022

Thank you so much for these book donations to my classroom. Books can have a profound and lasting impact on students' educational experiences and opportunities. Access to books in the classroom enriches the learning environment by providing students with the resources they need to expand their literacy skills, explore new subjects, and foster a love for reading (especially this last one!!!) For many students in underserved communities, the classroom library may be the only source of books they have access to, and having a variety of materials to choose from allows them to engage with different genres, topics, and reading levels. This access can improve reading comprehension, vocabulary, and overall academic performance, setting the foundation for future success. I have been able to see this first hand as my students come by and browse the shelfs looking for something new and exciting.

    With sincere appreciation,

    Pueblo AVID”

  • A Class Set of Books to Open Perspectives

    Funded Sep 25, 2021

Thank you so very much for your donation. The result of your kindness was a class set of books for students who often say they don't enjoy reading. However, due to your generosity we were able to read as a class, cover cultural conversations and read for the fun of reading.

Although some students were apprehensive at first about reading a book collectively in an elective class, it only took a few chapters to get all of their attention. Thus, they wanted to read more! Some on their own, and some with their classmates.

Thank you again for starting a diverse classroom library and opening up new perspectives to my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Funded Jan 5, 2022

I am so excited!!! Thank you so very much for your generosity. I cannot wait to share these amazing books with my students and inspire them to continue reading as many books as they see themselves in. I am positive that these books will help my students find the love of reading!”

  • Inspiring Mural To Beautify Our Campus

    Funded Aug 2, 2021

Thank you for giving to this cause. Because of your generous donation, our students were able to create a beautiful mural. In creating this mural, they looked inward and came up with the message that they wanted to paint the walls with, the message that they feel is important to express to their peers. It was lovely to see how they translated their feelings into art and helped beautify one stairwell of campus. This project was so empowering for our students because it showed that their feelings are valued as well as their creativity.”

  • Classroom Games to Destress

    Funded Jan 2, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting the climate of my classroom. So often our youth need a safe space to be kids, to connect with their peers and have fun. Your generosity and the addition of these games will help do just that. I cannot wait to see the smiles and hear the laughter that these games will create.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bojorquez

  • Share the Love of Reading!

    Funded Jun 5, 2021

As a result of your generous donation, my 11th grade students have been able to dive into this amazing book together. It has been a wonderful experience to sit down and read with my class. The story follows two girls, who some figured out shared a father, but some didn't pick up on the clues until later on in the story. The father unfortunately passes away in an airplane accident and through the grief and funeral planning process, the girls discover each other. This book is written in verse, and is so beautifully written. It also has so many themes that my students identify with.

After returning from distance learning, my students are facing a lot of difficulties with school. Many teachers are very concerned about learning loss and therefore, really pushing the pacing of learning, but I want to provide a space for students to catch up on the social and emotional parts of school that they missed. Reading this book together has helped with this. It has given us a break from the day to drift off into the story and use our imagination.

By reading this book together, I have been able to bring in several students who have not been interested in class. They are really enjoying reading this book and feel much more a part of the class by being able to contribute to conversations and discussions.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bojorquez

Most high school students only read when they are required, I would love to provide a classroom library with books that my students would LOVE to read. Many times, the books assigned and provided by schools are books that our students are less than excited for. They do not see themselves in these stories and have little motivation to read. This books is all different, it touches on family secrets, immigration, lgbtq+, identity and much more. I believe that having books in class that students can read whenever they want, students will dive right in.
