HP Printer & Ink
Funded Sep 28, 2022Thanks to your generous donations, my students received a classroom printer to use only for AVID community service projects and have unlimited printing resources. This printer has been extremely helpful for on demand work sheets, flyers and other materials to support the AVID program.
Class 752 uses technology at home, but it is a comfort and relief to know they are not limited in the school building. This accessibility is exciting for students because they can rely on the supplies of the AVID classroom to reach their goals. The printer is one of many tools to assist student learning in addition to the previously gifted binders, colored pens, looseleaf, Cornell note paper, pencil cases, post it notes, and many more. This is all thanks to the generous donations by donors choose participants!
The students are pictured using our printer to assist in our many community service projects, including our recent winter clothing drive. Through the months of November and December, our AVID class helped collect over a dozen garbage bags filled with various winter clothing items. The winter coats, jackets, sweatshirts and more were donated to St.Marys Clothing driver and will go towards helping many people during this cold season.
Thank you again for your thoughtful donation and helping my students reach their greatest potential.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Alexander Coan

Funded Aug 21, 2022Thanks to your generous donation, my students were able to successfully start their new school year as AVID students. AVID is a nation wide program being piloted at IS 201 which prepares students for career/college readiness and teaches students the skills to achieve academic honors. I have the privilege of acting as the AVID Facilitator during the first year of our pilot program.
Through this program, students learn to:
Organize their ideas and learn optimal study habits.
Review all academic course work daily.
Write Cornell Style Notes and review curriculum materials.
Peer tutor classmates to prove understanding.
Achieve honors level grades to prepare for highschool, college/careers beyond.
Positively contribute to their community.
Thanks to your generous funding from Donorschoose.com, each of my students were gifted with the following materials to be successful:
A 2" three ring binder
Divider Tabs to organize different classes
Cornell Note insert sheets - to be used to organize notes in all AVID classes
Binder Pocket
Ball point pens - black and blue
Multicolor gel pens - to coordinate important details
Highlighters
Post Its
Mini Journal Notebook
In addition to funding their school supplies, AVID students are active in community service. AVID students are self agents for themselves through independent responsibility management, inside and outside of the classroom!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving my students the tools they needed to be successful this 2022-2023 school year.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Alexander Coan
