My students love to perform in class and on the stage for assemblies. They love the challenge of picking up a new instrument and learning to play, and I love watching the pride on their faces as they master a new skill in my class. The ukulele is a small and manageable stringed instrument for 2nd and 3rd grade students. Many of my students are still very small and will not be intimidated by the size of the ukulele. The students will be able to quickly master chords and notes and will be able to play songs to accompany their own voices. Additionally, we can pair these instruments with percussion instruments we already have in our classroom to make exciting musical arrangements of songs we are working on in class.
