One School, One Book
Funded Apr 1, 2021Thank you for your generous donations to our school project. At the beginning of May our entire school began reading Wishtree. The intermediate students are independently reading the book or listening to others read. The primary students are engaging in a whole class read aloud.
The students have been drawn in by the story and want to know what happens to Red the wishing tree! All of the staff members have begun reading the book as well and you can hear the conversations about the themes of the book in the hallways between all members of the school community. The students have begun making their own wishes and adding them to our very own wish trees along the hallways. Thank you for helping bring a little community to our school.”

Funded Apr 1, 2021Thank you so much for your generous donation to our project. The snacks have been distributed to all the classrooms in the school to help fuel the students brains. With the delay of state testing until the fall, these snacks have been used during classroom assessments and daily learning.
The students were so excited and thankful when receiving these snacks. Teachers have been giving them to the students while working on assignments or listening to a read aloud. One group of students gets them as a treat after Friday math intervention.”

Funded Nov 30, 2020Thank you so much for your generous donations that helped purchase three different novel sets for our third through fifth grade classrooms.
The teachers have begun using these books in both remote and in person learning. They are designing novel studies that incorporate our state standards with questions around character development, making predictions, plot, and making inferences. The students are enjoying reading about characters their age who are dealing with some of the same problems they encounter in their own lives. For some students they are experiencing the world through a different perspective.
Having these diverse, complex novels has helped the teachers to incorporate the learning standards in a way that is relevant to these students.”

Ready to Read: Read-Aloud Texts for First Grade
Funded Oct 3, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donations! Our read-aloud texts have arrived! We have been using these texts daily in both reading a writing. Our district adopted new curriculum, but only purchased one set of books for each grade level team. Having these books has allowed three teachers to share two sets of books instead of just one!
So far we have been working on the fiction unit for reading and the personal narrative unit for writing. The students have really enjoyed listening to the books, and many of them we have read more than once! The students loved comparing the stories of "The Three Little Pigs" and "The Three Little Dassies" during reading and writing about their own special place like in "My Little Island".
We look forward to reading all of these books throughout the year!”

Funded Sep 23, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donation of Science read-aloud books! We haven't read them all yet, but we have been learning so much!
The students have been engaged in the reading and love to learn about our science topics. So far we have learned about unique features of plants and animals that help them survive, like camouflage! We also have begun to learning about shadows and the position of the sun. The students really enjoy listening to the Science read-aloud books to learn more about each subject. Again, thank you so much for your donations!”

Organizing Our Chaos: Storage Containers for a Clutter-Free Classroom
Funded Oct 3, 2019Thank you so much for all of our organizing materials. We have already put many of them to use!
A few of the lanyards are holding our bathroom passes. As they break we will replace them with more from the set.
The storage containers have been used as our "math toolboxes". Each table shares a box of math manipulatives to help them in solving problems. These are a great size for holding our counters and connecting cubes.
The book buckets are now helping to organize our reading library. Each bucket holds a different genre of books to help students quickly find a book that's just right for them.
Thank you so much for your generous donations!”

Funded Nov 14, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donations! Our read-alouds have arrived and we have had the opportunity to read some of them. The students were very excited to see the large stack of books arrive.
In Science we studied the moon and its phases. The students loved learning about the phases and seeing the beautiful illustrations in the book. The information presented added to their learning. They especially enjoy having time to read the books independently and to look at the pictures and diagrams.
In Social studies we just finished a unit on families, studying how they are similar and different. The read-alouds were a great starting point for our discussions. Again, the students love to have the opportunity to read and re-read the books independently. They like to study all the details in the illustrations that they didn't notice during the read-aloud.
I am excited to integrate the rest of the books into our curriculum this year. Thank you so much for helping my students to learn more about the world around them!”

Funded Nov 28, 2018Thank you for bringing some PEACE to our classroom! The new Peace Center materials have arrived and have already been put to use. The students were so excited to see the assortment of new fidgets and stress relievers. The item they were the most enthusiastic about was the weighted lap dog. As a class we voted and he has been named "Brownie".
It is great to see the students use the Peace Center as a self-selected calming strategy. Whether they are tired, frustrated, sad, or angry, the students choose to go to the Peace Center to calm down. They place Brownie in their lap and talk to him or pet him. They swivel the fidget toys or squeeze the stress ball and with a couple flips of the timer they are back to work, ready to learn.
Thank you for providing these resources that have helped my students control their emotions and get them back to class ready to learn!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Davis
Supplies for Success!
Funded Oct 26, 2018It's hard to describe just how much of a difference having these materials has made to our classroom! With each box that came, the excitement grew.
We use some of the materials on a daily basis. The adhesive dots are used on our Zones posters. Every morning the students attach their photograph to the "zone" of how they are feeling. Students are able to communicate their emotions and then use strategies to help them to be "ready to learn". Another resource we use daily is the dry erase markers. During math, the students sit at the carpet to practice their math content skills. Each day they use their new whiteboard markers to do this. It's a good thing we ordered as many as we did, as we go through them quickly! The screen cleaner has been used many times to wipe tiny finger prints and smudges off the iPad screens. We've used the clothespins to track student growth on our reading data chart and written personal narratives using the lined paper.
We are excited to continue using these amazing supplies!
Again, thank you for your generosity!”

Funded Oct 26, 2018Our new materials have arrived and we are so excited! When the boxes came the students were curious about the contents. When opening the packages, the students quickly began to smile. There were "oohs and ahhs" aplenty.
During math centers the students have been able to use the magnetic tiles to build structures and shapes. It was exciting to see the students work together or individually to build fantastic structures. We had learned about the moon and artist renditions of what it would be like to live on the moon that same day. Many of the students built replicas of the space structures we had seen in Science! It was amazing to see how creative they were!
We look forward to using the motorized solar system and the plant growth window during other units later in the year.
Again, thank you for your generosity!”

Ms. Davis
