Reading, Love, & Lemonade
Funded Nov 15, 2022The Lemonade Crime, the first of the two books we received, has been a big hit with students. The story has kept them engaged as we read 2 chapters at a time. Between readings, we discuss new vocabulary terms, character development and motives, foreshadowing, and make our own predictions on what we think will happen next in the story. Since we had many discussions, reading the book took longer than the kids had the patience for! They came in every day wanting to jump right into reading the book, which was great! While these students possess high reading level skills, they are not all passionate about reading on their own. This series has changed that, and we have been able to continue reading it thanks to this funded project.
The students have really enjoyed drinking lemonade occasionally while reading our book. It is a nice treat to enjoy and make a tangible connection to a part of the story. As we discuss, students have various activities to complete. I have complied the activity sheets into a laminated and bound book for students to keep. The students have really enjoyed making these and have taken ownership in them.
Again, I cannot thank you enough for giving my students the opportunities they have received through this project.”

Ms. Smith
Mystery Awaits
Funded Jun 26, 2021We cannot thank you enough for your donations to our classroom. Books offer students many different opportunities, from new vocabulary and reading skills to a fantasy land to get lost in. The books purchased with your generous donations are providing my students exposure to new words and their meanings, critical thinking skills as they are swept up in the mysteries within the stories, and the chance to read and comprehend books above their grade levels.
Every Wednesday in my class has been designated as "reading day". On that day, we just read at our own paces. The other days of the week are used for group reading and discussions about the books, vocabulary reviews, and projects based upon the books.
I like to believe all my students are enjoying the books. The mystery aspect of the stories has engaged a few of my students who are not usually as excited about reading. We are enjoying our discussions and debates of the books.
I want to say thank you so much again for making this possible for my students!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Smith
Take Us to Wonderland!
Funded May 12, 2015The students are enjoying our books so much! Each day in class ends with as much "Alice" as we have time for. The students like it best when I read aloud to them (they say it is because I use different voices for the different characters). No matter how we explore the story, we are enjoying it!
Because we each have a copy of the book, the students are able to follow along when we read aloud without getting behind or overwhelmed. This takes the pressure off of them and allows them to comprehend more of the story. This is also a big help when a student is absent and needs to get caught up with the rest of the class. We are also using critical and abstract thinking skills to identify symbolism in writing, create character profiles, analyze setting, and once we finish we will compare and contrast with the movie.
Thank you so much again for your support. You are very much appreciated!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Smith
