I am a DHH teacher who teaches ASL or American Sign Language. My student are Deaf, Hard of hearing and regular education hearing students. It is a melting pot. The hearing students love learning about deaf culture and the deaf students love sharing their stories and expanding their friend circle. We build bridges and break stereotypes in my classroom. Hearing students learn that deaf and hard of hearing students have no limitations and can do anything and DHH students learn to break through barriers of fear concerning hearing students. Our goal as a class is to visit Gallaudet University in Washington DC. Deaf students will take a look at a great program which promotes higher education for the DEAF and hearing students will immerse themselves in Deaf Culture for a weekend. Help us make this a reality!
