Access to high-quality books is a social justice issue for our children. We need a classroom library brimming with books so students can not only have the basic right to books but to have a choice in reading. We need a classroom library that will grow their love of reading. These books will not only teach our children to read, but it will give them access to a world beyond the four walls of their bedroom or classroom. Right now, our classroom library is not enough for our Kindergarten readers. We want to tell them that they are readers, that they can change the world. We want them to grow their language. We want them to read books, talk about books, and love books. Our Kindergartners may not have a lot of experiences beyond their homes and our classroom. Reading gives them the opportunity to have exposure to those experiences through reading, build empathy, and see themselves in the world. This project is for 100 fiction books for our classroom library, so our Kindergartners can read at school and take books home to read. Right now, our library doesn't allow us to do both.
