Art Students Enthusiastic for Encaustics!
Funded Feb 16, 2022We want to thank you so much for your generosity. I can't begin to tell you what it means to these students to have quality art-making tools. They are hardworking, highly creative young adults willing to try every art task presented to them. You have all helped to contribute to this program so that these students can continue to grow as artists. Your support of them and the arts are all part of these students' growing understanding of what it means to be a community and that people care about them. Again, thank you, and we will send you pictures after we get the supplies to show you what we've done! Our classroom is a better place because of your awesome contribution.”

Art Paper for Everyone Remote Learning!
Funded Mar 11, 2021Thank you so much for continuing to support all of the young artists in my schools! This year has been exceptionally challenging for many of them and these sketchbooks will be an invaluable tool to help not only the students in school but especially my remote students who need paper to participate in art class.”

Funded Jul 24, 2020My students were so grateful to have the opportunity to express themselves on their face masks! They have been worn many times since they were originally designed and they are still favorites for many of the students.
My students were required to draw their designs on a picture of the mask and work through their creative ideas before they used the fabric markers. Once students started working with the fabric markers they became engrossed in the process of controlling where the ink went and covering the masks in color. We have since used the fabric markers for other textile design projects and they have really enjoyed those new experiences this year!
Thank you so much for helping my students experience a new media, design process, and add a little more safety to their educational experience. Having the opportunity to express themselves, when they have very little control over what is going on in the world around them, makes a huge difference.”

Portable Distance Learning Art Kits
Funded May 28, 2020We have been incredibly fortunate so far here in rural Maine and have not needed to resort to full distance learning again since last year. This is partially thanks to the efforts and measures we take here at school but it is also partially thanks to projects like this one! By helping to provide each student with their own remote learning art kit our students do not have to share art supplies which have greatly reduced the opportunities for potential cross-contamination between students and grades. Furthermore, this has allowed us to provide those students who have to choose remote learning with the tools necessary to be able to participate fully in the same projects as their peers. My students and I sincerely appreciate your contribution to our program and willingness to help make this a safer experience at school this year!”

Funded Dec 3, 2019I am amazed by the support and help that my classroom has received for this project! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am so excited to be able to tell my high school students that our project was funded! They have been working with the current limited tools and materials available. I know that they will have a greater understanding of the importance of artist quality tools and a better appreciation for the generosity you have shown them!”

Funded Dec 6, 2019Thank you, donors, near and far, for choosing to fund this project for my students! I can't wait to tell them that the supplies will be arriving in the new year just in time for us to begin our Fiber Arts Unit. They have never had the chance to experience anything like this and I know they will be very thankful!”

Funded Dec 28, 2018Thank you so much for choosing to fund my very first DonorsChoose project! Not only has this directly benefited those students who were already working independently to learn how to sew but it has benefited multiple grade levels and the nearby high school. Several community members came forward with refurbished sewing machines, tools, and fabric to donate to the local elementary and high school art program. Many adults in the community have requested that we reintegrate life skills into the curriculum and offer adult lessons.
The students who have already benefited directly from access to the sewing machines have been grades three through eight with many younger students working on individual reward plans to earn access to sewing time. The third and fourth grade are creating fabric snake sculptures from around the world using upcycled ties and their new sewing skills. Both the fifth and sixth-grade class created "Ugly Monster" fiber art sculptures that also required habitats (ie. packaging) and care instructions. The seventh and eighth grade have been working on independent fashion design projects during their study hall, recess, and after school.
In conclusion, this project has reached farther than I could have possibly anticipated. The community has been reinvigorated with interest in our school's programs and helping to make them successful. Most importantly the students in my art programs are fully engaged in the fiber arts process while learning not only how to sew but how to troubleshoot, maintain equipment, and problem solve. Thank you all for helping to make this project a reality!”
