Help Immerse Our Art Program in Watercolors!
Funded Dec 30, 2011I would like to personally thank you for impacting my art classroom. Students love liquid watercolors and they are a new medium for me as well. I've found students save time and gain confidence when they are able to paint large areas of their paper without reloading the brush so much. One of my 3rd grade students even became a Semi-Finalist in the PS Art competition for her painting of cardinals in the snow, the first project we attempted with the liquid watercolors. The 2nd graders displayed their self portraits with warm colored backgrounds in the wonderful frames you helped us get. We hung them in our second annual art show and they looked professional. The students were so proud of their artwork and were glad to share it with the school community and their parents.
We are having lots of great learning experiences with the supplies. My 2nd graders are creating brightly colored 'rainbow stripe zebras' and are very excited about painting. Without your support we would have surely run out of paper by now and doing these great projects would not be possible. Thank you for bringing the color back to our art program!”

Every Child Is An Artist, Show Our Artists They Are Amazing
Funded Feb 12, 2012Thank you so much for all your thoughtful donations to my art classroom. Thanks to your help my young artists just held their Second annual art exhibition in the school's library. They worked very hard and had a lovely showing of their artwork.
We used the figure templates and shapes to create line and value works of a
rt in grade 7. Right now they are doing figure studies using the templates and making tints of colors in paint. The results are absolutely stunning and they are learning a great deal about color theory and paint mixing.
The 4th graders made amazing drawings of gum ball machines using markers on paper in the style of pop artist Wayne Thiebaud. They were so bright and cheerful and everyone loved looking at them. Our Kindergarten and first graders learned how to weave with paper and made wonderful weaving mats. They did a great job.
Our third graders plan on making some collages based on Picasso's hand with flower bouquets. They will look stunning with the bright colors of construction paper we have now! Again thank you for making these learning experiences memorable and more colorful for my students... I could never manage it on my own and I appreciate it so very much. ”

Art Students Need Supplies! Printmaking and Collage Materials
Funded Jan 26, 2012I wanted to write and let you know the impact of your donation so far. My art students have been hard at work with the new materials. My fifth grade students learned about the artist Wayne Thiebaud, they are making 3D sculptures of dessert items like cupcakes, pie slices, ice cream and donuts using newspapers, tinfoil and colorful tissue paper. They are having a wonderful time and the sculptures are coming out fantastic.
My eighth grade students are printmaking inspired by the same artist. They made some amazing prints from simple foam board. I will attach photographs of the results of their experimentation with the materials.
My 6th graders are using the gold scratch paper to create Egyptian profiles with Hieroglyphics of their names. The projects look so impressive and the students were so into their work that it was nearly silent during the two classes they spent working with the scratch paper and the stylus tools!
Thank you so much for your support of my art classroom. Without you I would not have the proper mediums to teach my students with. They are having a wonderful learning experience with the new supplies and I'm sure they will remember them for a long time.”

Stimulate Our Creativity! Let's Focus On Visual Art!
Funded Dec 12, 2011This project that your generous donation helped fund has been making a huge impact on our art classroom already. Here's a few things we've been creating with the materials that we received:The Second Graders were learning about texture and used the texture stamps to create warm and cool colored hearts inspired by the artist Jim Dine just in time for Valentine's Day! The Seventh Grade special education students began using the weaving looms to create potholders. It is wonderful to watch the amount of focus and determination they are showing in their work with the looms. They can't wait to finish them up and were disappointed when class ended.
Many students have been using the plastic lace and are building strong tactile manipulation skills as well as reinforcing weaving/braiding/knotting knowledge. It is a great way to get a little enrichment on a testing day. Everyone appreciates being able to transition back into art after a long morning of bubbling in their scantron sheets!
The fadeless paper is going to be a huge help when we begin hanging our artwork in the school's hallways and library for our annual student artshow this March. Parents and students alike enjoy coming and seeing their masterpieces on display for the school community.
Thank you again for your support and know that you helped us a great deal, without you our school would be a lot less creative and colorful.”

The Glue That Holds My Art Program Together... We Need It!
Funded Dec 30, 2011We've been able to produce an incredible amount of work so far with access to essential supplies like glue sticks and tissue paper. Since Chinese New Year is coming up next week several of my art classes are doing art with dragons, tissue paper, ink paintings and everything has been going so smoothly.
I was literally down to my last 3 glue sticks for nearly 600 students to share and really worried about how I was going to make it through the end of the year. Thanks to your help we are going to have no limits to our collaging capacity! Doing the butterflies in the future will be a great project for my primary level artists.
Thank you so much for starting our year off with your support. The students are so excited and ready to challenge themselves through more creative problem solving in the art classroom this year. ”

Our Art Program Needs Supply Basics! Please Support Art!
Funded Nov 30, 2011This year we were getting stressed about the lack of supplies and getting through June with the dried out markers, sad paint trays with all the good colors gone, a deficit of sharpies and crafting products. Thanks to your help we worry no longer!
It is absolutely wonderful that we can continue to paint, sculpt, draw and craft with over 500 students and not have to worry about a lack of materials. I hope you enjoy the photos of the students enjoying new learning experiences through the art mediums you helped provide our art room.
Happy New Year and thank you again for your support!”

Help us Paint Like Pollock! Artists Need Supplies
Funded Nov 29, 2011Thank you so much for the donation. Our new year is off to a great start. With your help we have enough canvas and paint supplies to last us well into the next school year. The students are so grateful and are very excited to have access to such enriching art materials.
Many of my students have never used acrylic paints or worked on canvases before and are producing bold, colorful, wonderful works of art. The brushes are amazing and are holding up so well. The students are taking special care of them so they last us a long time to come.
Hope your new year is as exciting as ours! Thank you again for your support of the visual arts!”

We're On a Mural Mission To Brighten Up Our School Community
Funded Jul 13, 2011Our school is brightening up one mural at a time, The students, teachers and school community are really coming together to create these works of art. Already we painted a Mondrian inspired corner wall in the art room. The students really light up when they are learning about the artist and recognize his abstract style with bold black lines and primary colors from the wall.
The middle school wing holds a few small mural areas where they have decorated above the lockers. Our school mission involves bridging the achievement gap and career and college readiness and these murals help remind students of future goals.
We are going to add colorful paintings to the doors of our school library next and a mural in the fifth grade wing is planned with the theme 'Stop Bullying Now". It will look great next to our Ballroom Dancing Mural.
The experience is fantastic and the students are very respectful of each other's contribution to the mural and are eager to help make their school a brighter place for everyone. Thank you for helping to instill that sense of school pride and allowing them to help beautify our school community.”

New Drawing Books for Art - Literacy & Art Go Together!
Funded Nov 7, 2011As you can see from the photographs, my students are getting good use out of their new how-to-draw books. They are so motivated to improve their drawing skills and use the books during downtime for some extra enrichment. We have a great selection of drawing books about many different subjects thanks to your donation.
As an art teacher I can tell you it can be a challenge getting the necessary basics like paper, pencils and markers but things like books can be such a benefit to improving our students literacy skills even through art! Thank you for making their learning experience such a positive one and showing your support to the arts. Have a bright, bold and colorful New Year!”

Young Artists Need Bright, Bold Supplies To Get Creating!
Funded Oct 25, 2011I wanted to write and let you know the impact of your donation to my art classroom so far has been great! The students are getting to learn how to use the acrylic paints and canvases and are doing geometric pattern paintings in the 8th grade to learn how to make tints and shades of each color. The resulting canvases have been nice and I can see that my students are excited to create their next painting venture 'pop' art when they recreate favorite characters and paint them with bright colors.
I'm so grateful because I was considering stopping my yearly tradition of doing acrylic paintings due to a lack of supplies. The regular and metallic sharpies are coming in handy making our art look more professional. We are outlining our work and labeling everything neatly with our name and grade for exhibiting in our art show later this spring.
It's such a wonderful opportunity to have my students experience using nice paints and have their work on display for the school community. It gives them a sense of satisfaction and pride.
Thank you for helping my young artists to grow in their skill and appreciation of painting techniques.”

Mrs. Fiorino
