  • Masterpieces Need the Basics

    Funded Dec 4, 2024

I am thrilled to share the incredible impact your generous contributions have had on our classroom. Thanks to your support, we received neon oil pastels, Sharpie markers, and glue sticks, which have truly transformed our learning environment.

Our students have been using these materials to explore their creativity and enhance their artistic skills. One specific project we recently completed was a vibrant watercolor resist using the neon oil pastels that allowed students to express their individuality and creativity. The neon oil pastels added a stunning pop of color, while the Sharpie markers helped outline intricate details. The glue sticks were essential for assembling the poster to be displayed at our upcoming art show.

When the students first saw the new materials, their excitement was palpable. They were eager to dive into their projects and experiment with the bright, bold colors of the neon oil pastels. Many students expressed how these resources made them feel like real artists, boosting their confidence and enthusiasm for art.

Currently, we are working on a collaborative project where students create their own comic strips. This activity not only hones their artistic abilities but also encourages storytelling and teamwork. The next steps involve refining their sketches with the Sharpie markers and adding vibrant hues with the neon oil pastels. We are excited to see their creativity come to life and can't wait to share the final results with you.

Thank you once again for your incredible support. Your contributions have made a significant difference in our classroom, and we are deeply grateful.”

  • The Virtual Art Room Experience

    Funded May 5, 2020

Thank you for your gracious donation. As a result, we were able to obtain an iPad for the digital art room. With the iPad I was able to record videos and post them onto our art YouTube channel. I was also able to use the iPad as a teaching aid while I was "zooming" with the students.

The most exciting part about the iPad is how versatile is has proven to be. Now that we are back in school, it is serving as a great tool to prepare the art lessons for the students. The majority of my classes are dual-modalities; meaning half of the students are in the school house while the other half are at home, learning from a distance. I am expected to teach BOTH, SIMULTANEOUSLY. It is a challenge to say the least but I am able to do almost seamlessly and in great part it's because of the iPad's availability.

Many of the students have really warmed up to the technology being used. A few have begun drawing on their own digital devices. Their drawings are great and it is really nice to see how the students can adapt and grow during this new time of uncertainty we are all facing.

Thank you for believing in us and in the arts.”

  • The Art of Coding

    Funded Nov 9, 2019

I would like to thank you for your gracious donation. Our art room has benefited greatly from the addition of the laptops in our class. We were able to complete a coding art lesson where our students learned how to use Java Script to their own digital self-portrait. It's incredible how quickly they learned to code! Some of the students enjoyed the activity so much that they went home and continued to learn how to code and create other things using Java Script. Hopefully providing our students with opportunities like this will benefit them greatly in the future.”

  • Art on the Cart Supplies!

    Funded Nov 9, 2017

We are so appreciative and grateful for our new art supplies. Your donations have really helped us make the most of our traveling art room. EVERY single one of our students has been able to benefit from the supplies. We are currently wrapping up beautiful Everglades landscapes in fourth and fifth grade, third grade is finishing up posters to bring awareness to water conservation efforts and in second grade our students just finished learning about Keith Haring and his figures in motion.

Our students were so excited to learn about the donations we received. Our media specialist announced our donations over the loud speaker during the morning announcements and you could hear our students excitement throughout the school that morning! Every one was giving me 'high-five's'! It made me so happy to see that they were as excited as I was about our supplies.

In the upcoming weeks our students will continue to learn about artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe and the Kente Cloths from the Ashanti village in Africa. They will continue to be using the tempera cakes and sharpies to make their masterpieces come to life. Thank you for encouraging our students and investing in our future artists.”

  • Art Room Basics

    Funded Oct 5, 2016

Thank you for the Art Room Basics Supplies. Thanks to your donations we were able to complete several projects and hold an Art Walk to show it all off!

Our students were absolutely stunned by your generosity. Your donations were all of the basic supplies we needed to set up our art walk and continue to create masterpieces.

Over the next few months the donations we received will come in very handy. You see, our school will be undergoing construction over the next two years. Our school is over 50 years old and in need of A LOT of repairs and renovations to its main buildings, therefore, the art room will actually now be on a cart - ART ON A CART. The supplies will allow me, as an art teacher to continue to provide our students with a meaningful art education as our art room will now serve as a general education classroom to assist displaced teachers and students during construction.

Chevron, I am so very grateful for your donations and for all the support you provide our educational system. We couldn't do this alone, it really does "take a village."”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fernandez-Rodriguez

  • Creativity Takes Courage and Glazes

    Funded Jul 15, 2016

Creativity takes courage, glazes and Donors Choose! Our students were thrilled with excitement when I shared the news we were going to be able to put our kiln to use. They were so intrigued to know what we would be doing, how we would be doing it but most importantly WHEN! I kept the 'When' a surprise. I wanted to make sure our students kicked off the year and learned the art room routines and behaviors before we got started with "the good stuff". So on a Monday morning, the third week of school, out of now where, I announced, "We're making pinch pot monsters!" The rest is history! I have never seen my students so eager and curious to work.

My students created amazing pinch pot monsters! My classroom was filled with joy, excitement, and well, a bit of a mess, but it was for a GREAT reason - LEARNING!! Over the next few weeks we will be preparing them for glazing and then we'll be showing off our monsters just in time for Halloween in our school's Media Center.

I am beyond grateful for the experiences I am able to allow my students to have. We are making memories that will last a lifetime. Therefore, "Please Excuse the Mess, We Are Busy Making Artful Memories".”

  • Creating Our Odyssey

    Funded Oct 6, 2014

On behalf of our art classes I would like to thank you. You have made an enormous impact in our art curriculum. Our students were thrilled to have new supplies in our art room. The sharpies, sharpeners, pencils, markers and oil pastels really enabled us create wonderful masterpieces and excell in our work.

With the supplies donated we worked on creating art work inspired by artists such as Wayne Thiebaud, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Matisse and Georgia O'Keeffe just to name a few. The supplies donated impacted over 400 students.

Thank you for making a difference in our school and in the lives of our children.”

  • iPonder the iPad

    Funded Nov 15, 2013

Thank you for your gracious donation to our art room. Our students could not be happier or more appreciative of your gift. The iPads have drastically improved our art classes. The iPads are used daily by students whether to look up information or techniques about what we are working on or to use different applications to draw.

The iPad has also proved to be a great teaching tool for me. I will often show students a video or even demonstrate a technique using the iPads. I also often use it to digitally record their grades and to make notes about their work, helping me make the most of our 1 hour block.

Thanks to your donation I have been able to expose students to more digital art. The students are enthusiastic about coming to class because they know there's always something new and exciting they will learn or see whether it's a new application we've downloaded or an artist or technique they'll be researching.

Thank you for supporting the arts!”

  • Enlarging Masterpieces

    Funded Feb 25, 2011

How can I even begin to express how grateful we are for your gracious donations to our school? Our students were AMAZED by how the masterpieces turned out. We couldn't have done it without you. We were able to hang the 5'x7' masterpieces around our school's library, cafeteria and of course our art room.

The artstix, gloss, and construction paper were put to great use and they couldn't have come at a better time! With our state's economic crisis our school's budget has been hit pretty hard. We are very glad that will be able to use the artstix during the next school year too.

We are so appreciative of your kindness. The masterpieces will be a constant reminder of your generosity. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fernandez-Rodriguez

We are a struggling middle to low class neighborhood who has deeply felt the effects of our country's struggling economy. Yet, in the middle of it all, sits a little jewel, our school. Our school, is a wonderful place to be. It is a close-knit family where teachers, parents and students work together. Although, our school is a little gem, we are lacking on a few aspects, and that is that our students often lack a lot of background knowledge. Often, their parents are busy working and they aren't exposed to a lot of culture or experiences. Our school is 99% Hispanic and 73% of our students are either on free or reduced lunch. The teachers at our school do everything possible to help these children succeed.
