I work hard everyday to create a positive learning environment and illicit a feeling of joy, connection, exploration, and to build a community of artists who exhibit a love of creativity and discovery! At any given time of the day, students in my room are being loud, moving around, smiling, laughing, and getting head first into investigations related to the Art world.
“Creativity is contagious, pass it on” – Albert Einstein. My students use their learning from their core subjects and life experiences to add to, build upon, and motivate their investigations for Art. From building Fort Sumter with blocks to connect Art vocabulary, spark conversation, or discuss careers, perhaps using a light table to create shadows to relate to Science. Adding to our Creation Stations with books reaches our students who learn through print. With building supplies we will help those that learn through doing. Buzzers help us work as teams to share our learning and good sportsmanship. Bingo help us to build our vocabulary and others help us to better our fine motor and hand-eye coordination such as the sewing boards, beads and stacking games. Games about balancing objects, help us to slow down and think about cause and effect. Drawing books guide students who think they can't, to be kids who know they can. Allowing students opportunities to learn through choice and self motivation in small group will help us to fill in the gaps that are there between our special education students (16%) of our school and the general population.
Our goal is to get them college or career ready, we need to let them play together first...on an even playing field. Help me to make that happen through a revamp of our opportunities within our art room! Let's get those Collaborators going!
