  • Help Us Frame Our Cultural Hero Artworks and Celebrate Diversity!

    Funded Feb 8, 2025

We are so happy to learn that our project was fully funded and we can now professionally frame the work of our students so all the community can see.

Your kindness is always overwhelming. And we appreciate everyone's support. Art is not just for artists, but also for everyone.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gibbons

  • Support Inner City Teen Mental Health with SEL Art Supplies

    Funded Aug 12, 2024

Thank you for your donation of books and paints. We are currently using the books to explore "Abstract Families."

In this exploration, students list 8 members of their family and write 5 descriptive words about each (positive and negative if need be) I let them know they can write in code if they want to keep their feelings a secret. After exploring the emotional values of colors and shapes, students create symbolic shapes, lines, and colors for each family member, and make a composition to represent their family. They can organize shapes by how well people get along with each other and the colors between shapes can show how they feel about each other.

Given a simple tutorial on the basics of expressionism in the books, students did very well, creating works that are both artful and meaningful. Moreover, they will be able to look afterwards at works by Klee, Gottlieb, Pollock, Calder, Nevelson, and other abstract expressionist works and make some insightful statements about the works and the artists.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gibbons

  • Support Literacy in My Art Class With These Workbooks

    Funded May 7, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting my program with your kind donations. All students deserve a great arft education and you know that!

Art teachers know, when we grid, measure, and draw—we use geometry. When we make sculptures—we use engineering. When we mix colors—we reveal information about physics. When we create illustrations for stories—we learn about literature. When we review the styles of art from da Vinci to Banksy—we teach history. When we teach ceramics—we teach chemistry. When we write about art—we strengthen writing skills. When we create works of art, we solve complex visual problems in creative ways. Art is the meeting place of all subjects.”

  • Exciting Creativity through Innovative Art Supplies

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Thank you so much for your donations which have allowed my students to work with clay for the first time! We do not have the ability to use a kiln, so this epoxy clay is a great substitute. We decided to do a project focusing on the environment and using contemporary artist Stephanie Kilgast as an inspiration. We are learning that art can be used to give old items new life and save them from the landfill.

We are using clay tutorials on YouTube to learn and use this new medium and having so much fun doing it too thanks to you! We appreciate your continued support so that students in urban schools can experience an exceptional art education experience.”

  • Help Support Literacy in My Art Class With These Workbooks

    Funded Apr 12, 2023

Your gracious gift of workbooks allows my students to create a personalized portfolio, strengthen their literacy skills, and show their growth in art. As an urban school we can often feel left behind but your gift honors us with direct support and strengthens our program.

You understand that when we grid, measure, and draw—we use geometry. Art is the meeting place of all subjects.

Your donation affirms this. Thank you.”

  • Art Supplies For Advanced High School Artists

    Funded Nov 6, 2022

Working in an inner city always presents budgeting challenges. We are fortunate to be able to provide something for most students, but sometimes our high-flyers don't get to experience professional-level supplies to further their practice.

Your gift of these more advanced materials is greatly appreciated! We have already begun to use them to stretch a large canvas by my top student so they can participate in some special exhibitions!

My advanced students were so excited to see the Posca pens, and canvas knowing they would be able to emulate some of the great contemporary artists they admire.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gibbons

  • High Quality Paper Cutter for Precision Cutting

    Funded Sep 25, 2022

Your help in purchasing a precision cutting machine means that we can do projects like origami, tessellations, and more. Cutting by hand takes valuable time, but this makes cutting paper so much easier! You can see we have already started using it for a tessellation unit. It is so safe and easy to use!

I love when we can coordinate with other content in school so our students can understand the interconnectedness, like geometry and art!

Students will also learn how to safely operate the cutting machine so they can be prepared if they encounter something similar in their future workplaces.

    Thank you so very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gibbons

  • Give the Gift of Color With Colorblindness Glasses and More!

    Funded Jul 2, 2022

Thank you for your donation of color blind glasses and Posca pens! We have received 2 pair of glasses that help the 2 major kinds of color blindness. This has been helpful so that these students can experience and appreciate a larger range of color. This is an urban district with a large population of students who could not afford these on their own. For our students, it is a great gift, and we thank you!

Students were so appreciative to be able to see the reactions of our color blind students, and all were able to benefit from the Posca Pens in our art projects!

The glasses will be kept in the room for our students and future generations of students with color blindness. Your gift will be appreciate for years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gibbons

  • Help Support Literacy in My Art Class With These Workbooks

    Funded May 5, 2022

These workbooks have been a great way for students to organize their thoughts for art projects, take notes on art history, learn their vocabulary, explore ideas about art through art quote reflections and so much more. Students respect their notes more when they are in the book rather than on lose hand-outs. They feel it is more professional!

The books become a written portfolio for course work and they can refer to previous passages to apply to current work. When vocabulary needs to be refreshed, all the written work is neatly organized and easy to access.

Not only do we take notes in the book, but it is a repository for project sketches and explorations. It will become a portfolio of learning! Already we see that students who have my class are improving their literacy skills in other classes. The benefits are far-reaching.”

In a test driven, results oriented public school system, the art department costs money. Our budget is small for the number of students we serve. We have some of the basics, but it's hard to have a broad experience with what little we can afford. I have created amazing resources for our students, but more would help. These children love to explore art, attendance is up, tardiness is down, but we need help expanding our program with more engaging materials! Your donation would help us do that for a community in need. You can see many of my explorations at artedguru.com, and the amazing work my students have done, but I could do so much more. My art students outscore their non art peers on exams like the SAT by as much as 150 points on average, and that is because of my unique approach to art education. Students explore their feelings, points of view, history, their heritage and more as they make unique, individualized works of art. We never do cookie-cutter projects, each work is unique and personal and connected to areas of core content. We explore the Renaissance, facial anatomy, muscle groups, and more when doing portraits. This engages my students at deeper levels that translates to other classes. Your donation will help me kick this into high gear!
