Filament for 3D Printer!
Funded Aug 29, 2015There are few things more exciting than receiving such overwhelming support for my teaching endeavors. The students at my school will now have access to technology that most students don't experience until college! I cannot express how lucky I feel to have so many people in my life who support my crazy ideas. Keep in touch with our Art Room via Twitter at www.Twitter.com/artatcleveland to see what amazing things we do with our brand new Makerbot 3D Printer that is stock piled with printing filament!
Thank you everyone again, I am so so so grateful for all of your support and I cannot wait to see the look on my students' faces when they see our new printer in action!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Atiyeh
Cleveland Art Room Dreams into a 3D Printed Reality!
Funded Jul 25, 2015Well, you made it happen, the Cleveland Elementary school has a 3D printer in our Art Room! We are the only classroom in Norwood that has a 3D printer, and it's absolutely amazing! Students in first through fifth grade have been so captivated by the cutting edge technology that is only a few feet away from where they sit and make art each week. Most people only get to see this amazing technology in passing or online, but my students have the opportunity to witness and explore it first hand at such a young age thanks to you!
Since we have had the 3D printer, we've made a number of small figurines, pencil holders for our tables, and texture plates students use in their artwork. Our students love taking the printed pieces to their seats and drawing them from observation (as an art teacher, this makes me SO happy to see students drawing from a 3D object rather than a flat drawing!).
We've watched numerous videos that explain how 3D printers work, and how the technology is advancing rapidly. The students were slightly grossed out but very fascinated by how doctors are now starting to use 3D printers to print nerves, organs and cells to help their patients. They're also really excited by 3D printing technology that uses unusual materials such as chocolate, sugar, carbon fiber integrated plastics and even steel.
We're currently investigating elementary friendly CAD programs for students to use and learn how to design simple shapes that we can print. In the spring the fifth grade will be working in small groups to create a stop motion project using small objects that we will print in our 3D printer.
The presence of this technology alone has captivated and inspired students from first grade to alumni of the Cleveland Elementary school. Several students in seventh and eighth grade have come back to see if the rumors were true, and they were absolutely amazed!
I am so grateful for your support, and my students are too. Without you, this could not have happened. Thank you for your donation, we will cherish our 3D printer and continue to find new ways to integrate it into our classroom and school!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Atiyeh
