  • Building Creative Minds: STEM Materials and Building Kits

    Funded Sep 27, 2024

Thank you again for all the support you showed to our classroom by donating to this project. Because of your donations the students have spent much time building relationships with one another as they collaborate on constructing all kinds of creations, whether for a STEM assignment, morning activity, or indoor recess. While they build I hear them working through problems that naturally arise and how they are continuing to strengthen their critical thinking skills. They have created unique domino runs that always erupt in mass excitement and cheers when all the dominoes have fallen. We've had races with lego cars built by teams continually considering ways to improve their design to capture first place. And many a time I have been met with a joyous face simply saying, "look what I made!" The growth students are making in their 21st century skills of collaboration, communication, and critical thinking, among others, is what this project was all about and I am so thankful for you making it a reality!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Irvin

  • Order in the Classroom! (We Need Organization)

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

It is with much gratitude that I thank you for bringing this project to life. As I said in the project description, having an organized classroom makes for a learning environment that produces maximized time on instruction and student focus. We have used these materials to keep our days running smoothly and with a little disruption as possible when it comes to transitions and lesson flow. I have had many compliments on how the classroom looks at the end of each day, because desks are always neat! And that is no easy feat when it comes to managing 40+ students each day. Materials are clearly placed so there is no question of where to find what is needed at any point. When the materials arrived to make this happen you would have thought they had opened boxes full of toys and gadgets rather than tools for organizing, but now that they are experiencing the benefits of what those tools brought, they know the excitement was well warranted.

Thank you all again for supporting our classes needs so that every child can have an opportunity to learn in an environment that helps them reach their goals.”

  • X Marks the Spot: Student Rewards, Incentives, & Gifts

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

I cannot thank you enough for the contributions you made to bring this project to fruition. From the moment boxes started to arrive the students' excitement for what was inside started to peak. When we opened them to reveal the incentives and rewards that were inside they shouted for joy and then "oohed" and "aahed" as each different thing was taken out. They helped get things set up and organized to put our new treasure chest on display as a constant reminder of the rewards they could earn for doing the right things throughout the day.

The first time our Dojo Store opened for students to be able to redeem points they earned that month, they had such big smiles on their faces as they rummaged through the many things they could choose from. And those who didn't have enough points to to get everything they desired left saying they were going to work even harder to get the points.

Again, I thank you for your willingness to support my students and help them to develop the proper conduct and habits that will serve them well in all they do.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Irvin

  • Add Some Fire (Tablets) to Our Learning!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for the contribution that you made to our classroom. The addition of the 4 Kindle Fires and cases to our classroom has made it possible for us to take advantage of an abundance of digital resources. Students are able to continue to advance their math and reading skills with more frequent access to sites like Storylineonline where they can listen to stories read to them, Accelerated Reader where they can test their comprehension on stories they have read, practice math skills with Freckle Education, and so many more. The students love that they can work independently, with a group, or with a partner anywhere in the room and still have that same digital access. They also love that we can easily identify each kindle with the different colored cases making distribution, collection, and accountability much more efficient and effective. Thank you again for enhancing our learning environment and opportunities.”

  • Can You Hear Me Now?

    Funded Dec 14, 2017

Thank you so much for the impact you have made on our learning. Through your donations our class has been able to expand our opportunities for technology use to enhance our learning. We just received our supplies a few days ago, but already the dynamics of our listening to reading stations have broadened. When we opened the boxes the students were excited to find out what was inside. We had a few "oohs" and "ahhs" for the jack boxes (mostly because they looked like fidget spinners), and without taking them out I let them know there were headphones too. I told them they were not just any headphones and I asked them who we are (our school mascot) and after they called out "TIGERS" I revealed the tiger headphones and they just erupted with excitement. It was wonderful to see their huge smiles and the excited anticipation to get to use the new materials. Once we got them set up and ready to use there was new life brought to our reading stations. I look forward to seeing the continued increase in the students reading motivation and the benefits that will bring. Thank you all for making that moment and their future progress possible! God bless you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Irvin

  • Help These Super Readers Level Up!

    Funded Oct 29, 2017

Thank you for the contribution you have made to our classroom. With the leveled library you helped fund, my students' reading practices have been greatly improving. The students are able to find books quickly that meet their reading needs. Books that are on their reading level allow them to practice the skills we discuss, like decoding words, identifying sight words, chunking words into parts they know, to help them grow as independent and proficient readers.

In our classroom the students spend the first few hours of the day engaged in reading activities. First thing in the morning they read while they eat breakfast and take AR tests on the books they read. I have more students earning AR points by PASSING the tests they take because they have found books they can read and understand in our leveled library. During Guided Reading the students are more confident when reading with partners or on their own because they know they can pick a book on their reading level to share with a friend and be successful, or a book just above their reading level to exercise their skills.

When the books arrived I was immediately pleased to hear one of my 2nd grade students (who WAS on a prekindergarten reading level) talk about his excitement for reading books that were for him. I have 3 others who were in his same situation that now show more excitement and joy for reading! THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Irvin

Our class is full of students with personality and potential. Each day brings new experiences that shape who they are becoming. The students come from many different backgrounds of diverse cultures, languages, and knowledge. One thing they have in common though, is the hope of a bright and meaningful future. We find a reason to laugh and smile every day and when we say "good morning" and "see you tomorrow" it''s more than just a statement. Becoming a confident and strong learner will continue to open doors for my students that circumstance may try to close. And having the materials and resources to make it happen is crucial!
