I am requesting the opportunity to attend professional development with Jen Jones of Hello Literacy. I have been a teacher of reading for 10 years and I just attended a free workshop with Jen Jones. I am amazed by the power that one picture book can hold. Through one session, Jen taught me how to break the book down and determine the numerous skills that can be taught in the areas of reading, writing, language/grammar, and vocabulary. By attending her summer series, PB&J (Picture Books & Jen), I will be able to gain even more insight and knowledge into how to use mentor texts with my students to meet all levels of learners. She teaches the teachers how to meet all students. I will be able to use these strategies to help my class in all areas of literacy.
