Enhancing ML Learning: Headphones with Microphones to Empower Student Voices
Funded Dec 18, 2024Receiving the headsets with microphones has positively impacted our classroom in several ways. Foremost, having the headsets readily accessible makes it easier for students to transition to independent speaking and listening practice to strengthen their English proficiency. Secondly, the headsets are good quality, they work well and are reliable. The students enjoy having new materials they can depend upon. Additionally, having enough headsets for all the students means that typical classroom tasks such as practice and assessments can be carried out more efficiently. Finally, my students have had the experience of a welcoming community by being the recipients of the headsets. We all appreciate that their needs have been recognized by our local community. It gives validation to who they are and what they have to offer the world in which we live.”

1:1 Connection
Funded May 6, 2016I wanted to take this time to say thank you to all the donors for choosing to bless my students and my class with your generous donations. Because of you, students in my classroom who normally do not have access to computers and technology will now be able to work on much need supplemental curriculum and to collaborate with their peers on group projects and reports.
Technology in schools is a very hot topic in education right now. Last year, my district implemented 1:1 with middle school students. This means every student in 6th to 8th grade had the opportunity to check out a Chromebook to use at school and at home. However, students and/or parents were required to pay a fee in order to use them. Many of my students and parents could not afford the fee, so they were unable to get the Chromebooks. Because of your donations, there are now Chromebooks in my classroom that my students can use.
This year, we have used the Chromebooks for Google Classroom, a new tool by Google where teachers can post assignments, and students can post comments and replies. We have also been using Google Drive, where students have been creating reports and presentations (slide shows) with their peers for different projects. The main thing we have used the Chromebooks for is accessing a website, Moby Max, that students can use to practice their reading, writing, and math skills on their levels, and earn seconds to play educational games.
Again, I cannot thank you enough for all of your help in making my classroom be "paper-free!"”
With gratitude,
Ms. Garrett
