Funded Jun 10, 2017The new Earth Science resources that you helped us acquire are allowing for students to approach our Next Generation Science Standards of landforms and mapping with hands-on activities and inquiry. Students are particularly fascinated with how flat topographic maps show the same information as our landform models. Many of my students saw immediately how other land areas compared to our state of Nevada (and our lack of tributaries and water).
When we first received the boxes in the mail, I simply gathered the class all around and began opening everything like it was Christmas morning. We passed around each material, and students were so excited as they guessed what we could possibility be doing with these items. They were thrilled to know that they would have the chance to experiment with these new materials.
As we continue our study of landforms, the students will make models of real land areas that we are studying to try and replicate the erosion and natural impact. Additionally, we'll continue discussions of human impact on land as well. Our final investigations of landforms will include researching current plans and developing unique plans for land conservation from both natural and human activity.
Thank you again for supporting me, my students, and DonorsChoose.org with our goals and needs. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. April Holloway
