Acquiring and keeping classroom materials is a struggle for my students. I try to incorporate a lot of creative activities into my lessons, and my students are constantly moving around the classroom trying to get to the materials they need. If my students had these shelving units, I could have all of the materials they need in one space (papers needed for lessons, chromebooks, coloring materials, maps etc.) and they wouldn't have to take time sending up someone from their group who will almost certainly not grab everything needed. They would also serve as "cell phone jails" for the period. With class sizes upwards of 42, these shelves will help my students gain quick access to the materials they need to be successful learners in my classroom, and will also curb cell phone usage. For large projects, students can spend upwards of 10 minutes trying to get the supplies they need while navigating through large groups of people and often not getting the range of supplies they need. These shelves would also serve as cell phone holders. Students are constantly distracted by their phones but have anxiety when they are away from them, so the first shelf of each unit would be dedicated for a safe space to keep their phones yet to keep them off of their phones.
