One of the biggest challenges in the classroom that many of my students face is a lack of fine motor skills. While I have many tools in my classroom to meet their academic needs, I am lacking tools to give them fun ways to practice fine motor skills. Fine motor skills are important to them as they learn to use scissors, write letters and numbers, and tie their shoes- all important skills that need to be mastered before they can move on to bigger things! Please help me fill my classroom with items that will encourage independent practice of fine motor skills- something that is a necessary skill and so hard for many of my students. Finding a way to make it fun helps them engage and grow! The materials I have chosen will engage my kindergarten students in a way that they won't even realize that they are building their oh-so-important fine motor skills. These skills are important for them to be able to learn how to use scissors, tie shoes, and write their letters and numbers. As they advance in their studies, they will be required to write more, and hand strength and motor skills are vital for their stamina in writing. Using small beads, putty, tweezers, games, and other small building blocks are fun ways for children to practice and build up the necessary strength and skills in their small hands. Often times, these skills are very hard for them to master- so making it a fun and engaging experience is important.
