Inspiration for Life!
Funded Aug 23, 2018Thank you for making this project possible! The books in this project are making it possible for our scholars to read stories that interest them about people who look like them and experience similar things. In our class, we spend the first 10-15 minutes of every day reading a book of choice. 7th grade is that sweet spot where students either cement their love of reading or start to drift. It's my dream that all of our 7th graders will leave my room loving to reading and having the skills to find texts that interest them.
We have started a Reading Revolution in the 7th grade at CCSMS. The Reading Revolution gives students to develop ideas of empathy, compassion, and celebrate diversity. The books in this project played a big role in our Revolution's success.
We have eight students who are part of our Reading Remediation class, and part of their success has been found through this project. They, up until this point, have not found books to be interested in. I have loved sitting down with that group and introducing them to stories they have loved.
Being in a school without a library is a challenge, but that's to your generosity it is a little easier for my scholars to find books to read and love.”
