  • A Chair Just Right for Me!

    Funded Dec 6, 2019

Our students are using flexible seating throughout the day. The students use the surf desk during reading, writing, and math workshops. The students are more focused and engaged during the lesson. The students enjoyed the options to seat and select what works best for them as a learner. The students are the most focused during writing when writing; students are producing more writing because they can sustain their focus when using the surf desk.

The students were all ecstatic. Our students were pleased and joyful that they now have new seating options. In their thank you letters, they share that they are in yellow on the mood meter. The yellow on the mood describes how they are feeling and their energy level. All the students had high energy and felt very excited. The students couldn't wait to use the items.

The items donated are used daily by the students. The students take turns using the items, and they respectfully ensure that each person has an opportunity to use one seating option.

The students also are aware of what seating option works best for them. The students will continue to use the items. In our photos, we showed how the students use them during the mini-lesson with the teacher and during independent work time. Thank you to the donors for supporting our students to become more successful learners.”

  • Bookcases For Hurricane Sandy Classroom

    Funded Dec 26, 2012

Thank you all so much. You have made our classroom whole. The new bookcases make our classroom library accessible. My students love the books and enjoy going to the library and bothering books. They all take care of the library. Each make sure that the library it kept straight and organized. I am able to put out all the genres of the books. The students are able to search for the books they want. It's good to have new book cases. The students love spending their independent reading time in the library.”

  • Meeting Area for Classroom

    Funded Nov 12, 2012

Since receiving the carpets for our meeting area my students are excited to come to the reading center and the smart board center. I have made my room very engaging and welcoming. My students during reading are eager to get the rug for the lesson. We are all together on the rug.

My classroom is a very engaged room. The students love being able to work on the carpets as a group, independent, or in partnerships. It makes a big difference in the atmosphere. My school is a Teachers College school and we have to have a readers workshop area. They push for students to meet on the rug for the lesson and read aloud that the teacher does. I feel that when a teacher is teaching her students on the rug they are more focused.

My students before were not comfortable coming the meeting area because they had to sit on the cold hard floor. Now, they don't have to worry about that Thank you guys. I really appreciate the Hurricane Relief Fund funding this project. When I received the carpets the students were so happy. They couldn't wait to unroll the carpet and sit on it. To them the carpet had that new car smell. My students love it when we receive compliments about our room. My students know that I care and take pride in building them a wonderful classroom with the best things.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Osbourne-Perez

My Co-teacher and I are teaching in a 3rd Grade as an Integrated Collaborative Team. Our school is a Title 1 school located in a diverse neighborhood in New York City. As a school, we represent the image of a human tower; we are one community with a strong foundation. The makeup of our school is mostly Asian and Hispanic. We embrace and value diversity; in our class, we have a variety of learners. As teachers, it's essential for us to support our students learning in a multiple of ways. The use of flexible seating and technology will help our teaching; as well as meeting the needs of their learning styles. We are eager to create a flexible environment that provides access and equal opportunity to be successful. My co-teacher and I want the best for our students means finding resources to build the classroom environment that gives access to all our learners to become College and Career Ready.
