Our students come from all over the city, from diverse backgrounds. Demographics include over 45% qualify for the free or reduced lunch program, and approximately 50% identify as white, 40% Latino, 5% Native American, and 5% African-American. We are small by design; we strive to be a place where all students feel cared for and where they can be their best selves. During the 9th grade year in Humanities, students study the American West, and Arizona specifically, learning about how place impacts the people who live there and vice-versa. Essentially, the 9th grade Humanities class is a blend of geography, history, and English Language Arts, focusing on the importance of knowing where you are; as Wendell Berry famously wrote, "If you don't know where you are, you don't know who you are."
