Blind and Visually Impaired Readers Need Adapted Materials
Funded Apr 2, 2012You provided a wonderful gift of literacy to my classroom of children who are blind and visually impaired. I have adapted all the books we received so that students can access them in either regular print, large print or braille. The braille versions also include "book bags" with real objects used in place of picture illustrations - the books come to life for a student who cannot see the pictures.
The audio books have been wonderful for my struggling readers. We use the noise-canceling headphones you provided for the audio books, classroom computer and iPAD. As a result, the students are better able to focus on their work without distracting others nearby. That is crucial in a classroom of mixed-ability children where the instruction is highly individualized.
Your donation has made such a difference in the lives of my students. We have all benefited immeasurably from your kindness and generosity. Thanks so much!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Bell
