Let's Illustrate Our Big Book of Animals
Funded Aug 6, 2024"Our Big Book of Animals" is a project that helps my students develop many important skills and increases student engagement with learning these skills.
Students develop their ability to conduct a long-term research project, collecting information from multiple sources. They learn how to cite their sources to avoid plagiarism. They learn about animal adaptations and how these physical traits and behaviors help animals survive in their habitats. They learn about poetic devices, how to use descriptive language, and how to capture the attention of the reader. They use this information to write an original poem about their animal as well as an engaging informational text that explains the adaptations of their animal. They also develop their public speaking skills when they present their book to live audiences during class and at the publishing event. And lastly, they get to demonstrate their artistic abilities by illustrating their animals, which is always their favorite part of this project. In the end, the book gets printed in hardcover format and placed in the school's library.
Your generosity ensures that my students have all the materials they need to make this project the biggest success possible. They take great pride in making their book, which not only helps them develop important academic skills, but also helps them realize that they are capable of doing impressive things, like writing a hardcover book that lives on the shelves of our school's library. Thank you very much for making this possible.”
With gratitude,
