  • "Making" The Most Of 3D Printing

    Funded Feb 5, 2014

I am so excited to have received the MakerBot Replicator 2 3D printer. My students and I have had many discussions about the impact this printer will have on the learning we are doing and how much further we can take our learning.

My students and I are using the 3D printer to allow us to make models of buildings, towns, creatures, and art work we are creating. We are currently in the design process for a connector to build raised be gardens for our school. We also believe the printer will be a great way to manufacture parts we might need for our Trout in the Classroom equipment when it no longer works properly.

My students are so proud to be the only elementary classroom in the area to have this type of technology to use. They feel special and I can see the positive impact it is having in what they believe they can do. Thank you so much for helping be a part of the reason why they believe in themselves just a little more today than they did yesterday.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Abbott

  • Here we grow again

    Funded Mar 16, 2014

Thank you once again for your donation to my classroom project, Here We Grow Again. My students have been very excited to receive the raised beds for our garden. They were excited to learn about plant growth and food production. We cannot wait for the next year to grow and raise our little farm.

My students and I will continue to use the raised bed gardens year after year. We have devised a plan to use one garden for traditional gardening and the other to try a modified gardening program using aquaponics from our trout program.

My students love gardening and learning about their food source. It is a program we will continue to use over and over. We cannot wait to see how many different crops we can grow across the 4 seasons.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Abbott

My students come from a very stressed environment. They are from low income homes, many not having one or both parents around. Many have never had the opportunity to express themselves, whether it be who they are or what they want to learn. When the kids come into my classroom they learn to explore different things and they learn it is okay to make mistakes. They begin to understand that learning can come from the mistakes they make. By the end of the year, they know they are smart and they have the confidence to be able to learn no matter the situation. My school is in one of the most economically depressed areas of my state. Despite all of the obstacles, the teachers are excited about helping our students learn there is more to life than jail or welfare.
