  • C'est Magnifique! Help Build Our Vocabulary With Fancy Nancy

    Funded Aug 7, 2014

Thank you so much for your amazing contribution to our classroom! My students are HUGE Fancy Nancy fans, but because so many of the titles are only available in hardcover, purchasing them was not a possibility. Now, thanks to your generous donation, we have many amazing choices for my students to read!

Fancy Nancy books are engaging, written in a way that shows my students strong writing that is also still accessible, and teach my English Language Learners new vocabulary that they can start using right away.

Thank you again for all you've done for our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Extra, Extra, Read All About It!

    Funded Mar 15, 2014

Thank you so much for your amazing donation of Time for Kids! My students were SO excited to get their hands on the magazines we received. For the rest of the day, I heard, "Do we REALLY get to keep these?!"

Many of my students do not have even a small library of books at home, so these magazines will provide an inexpensive way for my students to build a collection of magazines at home that they can share with siblings and relatives. Because the text is written at a level simple enough for most of my students to read independently, the texts are enticing to read. My students LOVE nonfiction, so the articles in Time for Kids are perfect for getting them hooked on reading.

Thank you again for supporting our classroom! We can't wait for the rest of the issues to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Mommy, Daddy, Please Read with Me!

    Funded Feb 9, 2014

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for donating these great reading folders to our classroom! We've been using them for the past few weeks and my students love getting to pick their own folder to take home. Because the folders come in a variety of reading levels, I'm able to meet the needs of my beginning readers and my most advanced readers. Each week, my students beg me to start checking out the folders as soon as the day begins.

Although we've been using them for only a few weeks, I am already seeing how the comprehension questions my students write in response to these folders is increasing their ability to think and write about books. I can't wait to continue using these folders with my current and future students.

Thank you for your generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Paper, Glue Sticks, And Crayons, Oh My!

    Funded Jan 14, 2014

Thank you so much for your amazing contributions to our classroom! When I opened the box that contained our new crayons and glue sticks, my students let out a huge cheer. I passed out a new box of crayons to each student, and one of my students was so happy he literally kissed the box! We don't have any more issues of students not having a color they need - or having the crayons they need for coloring.

Each year, I typically need to go out and purchase several dozen glue sticks and reams of paper, as our small supply runs out quickly with 30 students. Now, we have all the materials we need to write, draw, and create at our fingertips.

Thank you again for your kindness and generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Can You Hear Me Now? Good!: Headphones for First Graders

    Funded Dec 7, 2013

My students and I want to give you a huge THANK YOU for your awesome donation to our classroom! The headphones you've donated to our class have made listening to educational websites so much easier for my students.

We are lucky to have access to some technology, but without headphones, my students had a hard time using our computers, as the noise was distracting to other students. Now, they are able to listen comfortably and without interrupting other students' reading or writing. I am able to ensure that my struggling readers have the ability to listen to texts being read aloud for supporting their reading growth. Students are engaged and thriving readers.

Thank you again for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Our Favorite Books Are Falling Apart!

    Funded Dec 6, 2013

Thank you so much for your amazing contribution to our classroom library! My students were incredibly excited when we opened the Amazon box to find many hardcover copies of classroom favorites. They "oohed" and "ahhed" as I pulled each out of the box and cheered when they saw several of the titles.

I believe the best way to reach students and turn them into readers is to put high-interest books in their hands. The books you donated are classroom favorites, which even my more reluctant readers will pick up to read and reread time and time again. Now that we have beautiful new hardcover copies, more students can fall in love with these cherished books!

Thank you again for your kindness and generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Whiteboards, Markers, and Erasers, Oh My!

    Funded Sep 6, 2013

Thank you so very much for your generous donation of new whiteboards, markers, and erasers to our classroom! My students are loving our new boards. Our old boards were scratched and marked up, which made writing hard to read. On the new boards, students can easily show their work and read their own writing. We've used the boards extensively in math, which has allowed students to show their work and get immediate feedback about their thinking.

Further, the markers and erasers you donated have greatly helped my students. Few students could bring the whiteboard markers we requested on our school supply list, but now all students have access to that essential resource. Previously, we used tissues students brought to school as erasers, but the new erasers you donated are helping conserve our tissues (and the earth!).

Thank you again for all you've done for our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Emergent Readers Need a Leveled Library

    Funded Aug 22, 2013

Thank you so much for your amazing donation of leveled books to our classroom! We are working hard to become better readers, and having access to lots of "good fit" books for all students is a must! Previously, we didn't have a large selection of mid-level books - the books most first graders spend the majority of the year reading as they become more proficient readers. With your donation, we now have many books across a range of topics that students can self-select for independent reading.

I believe putting engaging books in students' hands is key to developing lifelong readers. You've empowered my students not just by providing them with interesting books, but also by providing books that enable students to feel successful at reading. We deeply appreciate all you've done for our classroom. Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • History in Our Hands: Bringing the Past to Life!

    Funded Dec 31, 2012

Thank you so much for donating to this project! Our social studies curriculum includes units on the United States and its symbols as well as on Native American history. Because my students have limited opportunities to see artifacts and monuments outside of school, being able to give my students visuals of important objects and symbols is key. The boxes of resources you've donated contain replicas that my students beg to pull out again and again, and which are highly supportive of my students who are English Language Learners and students with special needs.

Thank you again for helping make history come alive in our first grade classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Beginning Readers Need a Leveled Library

    Funded Oct 30, 2012

Thank you so much for your donation of a set of emergent readers to our classroom library. In first grade, students enter at such a wide range of reading abilities, and even at this point in the year, I have several struggling readers who need texts with lots of support and easy, repetitive text. The books you've donated are helping my students become more confident, fluent, and engaged readers. This is so critical to future reading success.

It's often hard to find the resources needed to meet the needs of all of our students. Your donation of this book set has addressed that need and helped ALL of my students see themselves as readers. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart
