  • Today We Will Read!: First Graders Love Mo Willems

    Funded Mar 13, 2016

As we opened the pile of Amazon boxes on our classroom carpet, cheers, whistles, and clapping could probably have been heard from across the school! Your kindness and generosity enabled us to completely revamp our Elephant and Piggie collection in our classroom library.

Year after year, these titles are well-loved. They are great books for students just learning how to read, and wonderful for partner reading and studying character. Every year, Mo Willems is the hands-down favorite author, which, over time, caused our Elephant and Piggie collection to literally fall apart at the seams. Now, our library is equipped with double copies of EVERY Elephant and Piggie book, and my first graders couldn't be more excited!

Thank you so much for helping inspire young readers and to give the gift of a love of reading to my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Bringing African-American History to Life!

    Funded Dec 24, 2015

"This is seriously the most engaged I've ever seen my students during a field trip or presentation. Ever."

You know it's been a great day when a teacher comes up to you and says this. It was exactly the response received after our kindergarten, first, second, and third graders saw "African-American History... Live!" Thanks to your overwhelming generosity and kindness, almost 350 students watched and participated in this amazing, interactive theater performance. Students had the opportunity to dance, sing, and act in scenes such as the travels of Harriet Tubman and the Montgomery Bus Boycott and Rosa Parks' arrest.

As teachers, we can read books to students, show them photographs and video clips, and explain the roles our leaders had during critical times in our nation's history. But nothing beats hands-on experiences, and your donations helped our students learn history in the most interactive of ways. Thank you so much from all of our primary grade students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Write On, Wipe Off for Math Practice

    Funded Aug 14, 2015

Thank you so much for your amazing donation to our classroom! My students are in LOVE with their Write and Wipe Pouches. It's been a huge time-saver, as students can use graphic organizers that are printed and ready to go (so they don't have to draw the organizer itself), and a paper-saver as well. The pouches have also helped to make math more fun and hands-on for my students. As you can see from the photos, they can use manipulatives on the pouches, then write their thinking in the same place, too.

Thank you again for everything you've done for our classroom and for others across the country!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Help Bring Back Beloved Books!

    Funded Sep 11, 2015

Thank you so much for your amazing donation to our classroom! My students absolutely LOVE to read, and your donation has breathed new life into our library.

My first graders keep coming back to the same beloved books - Knuffle Bunny and Elephant and Piggie in particular. This is fantastic for their development as confident readers, but unfortunately, that means that many of our favorite books are definitely showing their well-loved status. Thanks to you, we have brand new copies of these treasured titles, as well as some new, often hilarious (like The Book with No Pictures, a new favorite!) books to add to our collection. When we received our books, my students eyes lit up and they literally cheered!

Thank you again for all you have done for our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Shape Up!: Math Manipulatives for Hands-On Learning

    Funded Jul 22, 2015

Thank you so so much for your amazing contribution to our classroom! When my students first saw the manipulatives you donated, they were jumping up and down and screaming with excitement!

My students love math, but much of what they need to do with shapes in first grade is difficult to conceptualize without the correct tools. Now, students have the two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes needed to make fractions of larger shapes, make new shapes, and to explore patterning and symmetry. Without these tools, these concepts would be difficult for my young learners, but now they can understand the ideas in more hands-on ways.

Thank you again for supporting our classroom! Happy Holidays and best wishes for a wonderful New Year!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Back to Basics: Markers, Paper, and Crayons

    Funded Jul 20, 2015

We cannot thank you enough for your amazing donations to our classroom. When I opened the boxes of materials with my students, they went crazy! It was like Christmas, and, as you can see, my students instantly fell in love with the crayons, glue sticks, pencils, and more.

Many of my students came to school without the appropriate materials, and most of our supplies were shared to help ensure access to the few crayons, markers, and other tools we had. Thank to your donation, each student has his or her OWN box of crayons (that's a big thing to a first grader!), Expo markers, glue sticks, and mechanical pencils. We have adequate paper to allow me to color-code and differentiate homework and classwork. Most importantly, we have the tools we need to be successful.

Thank you again for your kindness and generosity. We appreciate it from the bottoms of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Let's Get Interactive With a Mimio Board!

    Funded Aug 7, 2014

Thank you so much for your amazing donation to our classroom! As you know, technology in schools is becoming increasingly essential for preparing today's students for success in a world driven by electronics. Unfortunately, in many urban schools such as ours, access to technology lags behind today's demands.

However, thanks to your generosity, my students now have the opportunity to learn in new ways thanks to the MimioTeach! My students LOVE to solve problems on our interactive whiteboard, show projects they've made, and present to the class. It's made my teaching much more interactive and hands-on.

We can't thank you enough for your contribution to our class. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!”

  • Help Give Our Literacy Bags a Facelift!

    Funded Aug 7, 2014

Thank you so much for your incredible donation to our classroom! Each year, my students get to take home literacy bags that contain books and other materials that students ADORE sharing with their families. But after a few years, our old pouches were looking a little ragged. Thanks to you, we have shiny new pouches with all their Velcro working and without any holes!

My students were so excited to open the box holding the pouches and to give our current literacy bags a "facelift." You have helped our literacy bag program continue on for the next few years, helping hundreds of students and families share books and learning at home. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Getting (and Keeping) First Graders Organized

    Funded Aug 7, 2014

Thank you so much for donating amazing organizational supplies to our classroom!

My students cherish the time each week in which they get to check out books. In the past, we've used Ziploc baggies to store books, which were messy, didn't last long, and didn't really protect our books. Now, with the clear front book pouches you've donated, my students take pride in choosing books, keeping them organized, and being responsible with them. The clipboards and binder organizer you donated have been great to help students work in places other than their desks and to keep small group materials organized.

Thank you again for your support of our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

  • Books Clubs For Little Learners

    Funded Jul 30, 2014

Thank you so much for your amazing contributions to our classroom! My students absolutely LOVE the books you've provided for us.

Each year, we spend time reading and talking about books within series in book clubs, much like adults do. In the past, we've struggled to have all the various titles and copies necessary to make this a reality. Now, students have the resources they need to each have books within the series, which they read, discuss, and write about. Primary students are capable of this higher-level work when they have the materials they need and highly engaging books, which you have so generously donated to our classroom.

Thank you again, and have a wonderful remainder of the holiday season!”

    With gratitude,
