  • Writing Rocks! Personalized Writing Tools for Student Engagement

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

My budding writers and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous donation of writing tools!

To say that my students were THRILLED when they received their new writing materials would be an understatement! Each child received a clipboard that I personalized with their name, which allows them to get up and move while we complete our distance learning work together over Google Meets. They are so proud to have something with their name on it to call their own!

Your donation also allowed me to provide each child with some bright colored paper and some colorful gel pens to help make writing fun and engaging. They love taking notes and jotting sketches with these new materials.

Thank you again for helping support my third graders!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Back to Basics: Remote Learning Essentials

    Funded Oct 28, 2020

My students and I cannot thank you enough for your donation of school supplies! We've been fully remote throughout this school year. Despite our new reliance on technology, my third graders still desperately needed some essential school supplies. They now have the tools they need for success!

Our new composition books serve as writing notebooks, holding each student's narratives, opinion pieces, and teaching texts. Flair pens provide students with a motivating writing tool, while also helping them learn how to edit and revise with multiple color tools. Whiteboard markers and erasers are ALWAYS needed and help me provide on-the-spot feedback as students use their whiteboards to show their learning.

Thank you again for everything you've done to help my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Newsworthy Nonfiction Books for Distance Learning

    Funded Oct 28, 2020

Thank you so very much for your generous donation of many wonderful nonfiction books for my students!

My third graders LOVE to read, but tend to gravitate toward familiar fiction series. Thanks to you, they have a diverse range of new nonfiction books to add to their home libraries. Your donation allowed me to choose books that were just right for each student, spanning a range of interests (biographies, travel, ocean animals, and more).

Shortly after my students received their books, we completed a nonfiction reading and writing unit. They drew upon all they learned from the books they read to uncover the main ideas, details, and fun facts within their texts, and then used this inspiration to create their own "all about" books.

Thank you again for all you've done for my young readers!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Growing Readers With Digital Text Sets

    Funded Sep 30, 2020

Thank you so much for donating to this project! Thanks to you, my students have access to many high quality, digital texts to read independently and during our guided reading time.

We have been virtual since March, and one area in which I struggled was finding appropriate texts that students could access and read with me during small groups online. The books on the Literacy Footprints website are fantastic! They range greatly in levels, so my more emergent readers and English Language Learners have equal access to engaging books as their peers. We've worked heavily with nonfiction texts, and the ones available through Literacy Footprints are rich with text features and high-interest topics.

We will soon be moving to a hybrid model, and I will continue to use Literacy Footprints to support small groups both in person and at home. Thank you so much for your donation!”

  • A "Fantastic" Novel Study With Fantastic Mr. Fox!

    Funded Sep 24, 2020

We cannot thank you enough for your donation of a class set of Fantastic Mr. Fox for our recent novel study!

During this unit, we learn about figurative language, study vocabulary, and focus on character development. Teaching and learning virtually is difficult, especially if students don't have a copy of the same book in their hands. Thanks to you, each student had a copy of Fantastic Mr. Fox! Students could follow along and reread sections if they had wonderings or confusion.

Thank you again for your incredible support of our classroom!”

  • Math Makes Sense With Manipulatives

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

We cannot thank you enough for your donation of crucial math tools! We have been fully remote since the beginning of the school year. Some math concepts, including place value and fractions, are incredibly difficult without appropriate manipulatives to model concretely before understanding abstract ideas. Thanks to your donation, my third graders now have the tools they need to be successful!

We have used the base-10 blocks in many lessons, including understanding place value, adding and subtracting three-digit numbers, and soon, we will use them for estimation and rounding. Each students has their own tools, which helps them while they learn from home. As we soon return to the classroom in a hybrid model, students can bring these tools between home and school, eliminating the need for shared manipulatives in the classroom.

Thank you again for all of your support!”

  • iNeed iPads for Student Success: Part 4

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

I cannot begin to describe how grateful I am that this project was fulfilled! Now more than ever, technology plays a critical role in the lives of our students. Our educational system is evolving and moving to be more online, especially in the era of remote and hybrid instruction.

Unfortunately, our access to technological resources lags behind our need for putting 21st century devices in our students' hands. Thanks to you, this is possible now! We are currently learning 100% virtually, but when we are back in the classroom, we will need technology more than ever. Students will come back to the building with an even wider range of needs, and differentiation will be key. Having access to iPads will help students access materials at their level and engage in technology. Durable cases will also allow me to sanitize materials well so all students have access to these materials.

Thank you so much for making teaching and learning a bit easier in these difficult times!”

  • Can You See Me Now? Online Learning Tools for Success

    Funded Aug 6, 2020

Thank you so very much for making this project a reality! Our school has been completely virtual since the beginning of this year, and we will be remote only for at least another couple of months. The tools you've provided with this project have been invaluable!

Thanks to you, my students are able to see me clearly with my ring light! I'm teaching from a basement, which is dark and does not allow in much natural light. With the ring light, students can see me clearly. This project also allowed me to purchase headphones, which help my students hear my voice without a lot of background noise.

Finally, this project helped fund a document camera. This allows me to share books with my students so they can see the pictures and words, work through math pages together, and record videos of my students' word sorts.

Remote teaching isn't easy by any means, but thanks to you, it's helped me be a more successful teacher for my third graders. Thank you for all you have done!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Take-Home Books for Growing Readers - Part Two

    Funded Oct 9, 2020

My students and I cannot thank you enough for the amazing gift of books!

We recently had a supply pick-up for our students, and they were THRILLED to receive exciting new books to add to their home libraries. Currently, we are 100% virtual and will remain this way at least into the new year. This means that it is more important than ever that students have access to fun, engaging books.

We recently read the first Ivy and Bean book as a class read aloud, and as you can tell from the pictures, those books were a huge hit among my readers! Students can also sign up to read aloud to their classmates first thing in the morning and right after lunch. They eagerly sign up to read, and they've been excited to read aloud a chapter or two from the books you generously donated to them.

Thank you again for all your support and for helping grow a class of readers!”

  • Putting Our Ideas in Print

    Funded Jul 14, 2020

My students and I are so grateful for your donation of a laser printer and ink. Our school, like many other public schools in our city, has minimal access to printers, and the two printers we do have are used by several dozen staff. Needless to say, this makes opportunities to use the printers very limited.

Thanks to you, we will have our very own printer and ink for our classroom! We are currently 100% remote, but I am already using the printer to prepare paper materials to distribute to students during supply pick-up. When we do go back in person, we won't be able to share materials. Therefore, I am starting to print individual center materials so my students have the games and tools need. I can't wait for my students to be able to print stories they publish on our printer as well.

Thank you again for supporting my students and our public school community!”

    With gratitude,
