  • Can You See Me Now? Good!

    Funded May 3, 2022

We can't begin to thank you enough for your donation of a new projector to our class! In today's world, technology is at the forefront of education, and projectors are definitely a more basic need.

Our old projector wasn't very bright, didn't play sound, and was difficult to read from for students who sit further in the back. Thanks to you, we have a new projector that is bright, easy to read, and plays sound from videos and instructional materials to make learning accessible for all students.

We appreciate all you've done for our classroom. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • The Students Have Spoken: Books by Request (Part 2)

    Funded May 5, 2022

From my young readers, THANK YOU for contributing to this project and helping make it a reality!

My students were thrilled when they found out that not only could they choose some new titles for our classroom library, but that this project was funded by wonderful donors. Imagine a class of fourth graders, floored as we open box after box of favorite books like Big Nate, Cat Kid Comic Club, and nonfiction books about Helen Keller and mysterious phenomena. These books were snapped up during book checkout days, and remain favorites months later.

Thank you again for all you do to promote a love of reading and learning!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • The Students Have Spoken: Books by Request (Part 1)

    Funded Jun 21, 2022

Thank you so very much for your generous donations to this project! I love to be able to not only introduce new books to our classroom library, but to be able to bring beloved favorites to my readers, too.

This project enabled me to share some well-loved series with students, including the Hilo series. Several students were unfamiliar with these titles, but latched on quickly and devoured the series. Other series, like History Smashers, helped bring a new view to topics students love to learn about, including the Titanic and the American Revolution.

We appreciate your kindness and commitment to providing my young readers with books they love and want to share together. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Tales From the Past: Historical Fiction Book Clubs

    Funded May 5, 2022

I cannot begin to thank you enough for bringing this project to life! My students are pretty avid readers, but a genre they were much less familiar with was historical fiction. After building up strategies for working in book clubs, students were released to read, write, and discuss historical fiction books including Eleven, The War That Saved My Life, and Bud, Not Buddy.

My students not only had fun in their books clubs - they absolutely THRIVED! The quality of discussion was unmatched, and some of my students who were most hesitant about reading historical fiction in these clubs were more engaged than I've ever seen.

Thank you from the bottom of our book-loving hearts for the opportunity to read great stories, share them with peers, and learn along the way.”

    With gratitude,

  • Soft Starts for Social Emotional Learning

    Funded Jan 12, 2022

Thank you so much for donating these amazing resources! My students are thrilled to have materials they can use together as they start and end their days, and during indoor recess.

All the tools have been a huge hit, especially our cube puzzles! One of my students is a cube puzzle whiz, and has offered to teach his classmates strategies for solving. Seeing these impromptu, student-driven conversations is huge, especially after months of distance learning with less peer-to-peer interaction.

The magnetic stick set has been super popular, as have the Legos. My students get the opportunity to be creative and have fun with one another, while decompressing, socializing, and problem solving.

Thank you again for all your support!”

  • The ABCs of Reading: Art, Books, and Conversation

    Funded Dec 3, 2021

Thank you so much for bringing this incredible project to life!

My students are an amazingly talented group of artists, and they love to create. When they realized they had the opportunity to paint with real acrylic paint on real canvas, they were floored!

This project is a fantastic way to pull together a love of art with enjoyment of reading. Students had the opportunity to celebrate some of their favorite books, and to see trends in favorite books amongst classmates. In creating a book cover for a favorite book, students were essentially also able to make book recommendations to their peers. Perhaps most importantly, as students painted, they talked about the process of creating art and parts of the stories that made them laugh, cry, and think.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this project happen for my aspiring artists!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • History, We Have Our Eyes on You

    Funded Dec 31, 2021

Thank you so much for your incredible donation of Show Me History books!

My students this year are BIG readers, and they really gravitate toward books about history and people in the past. Thanks to you, we have a wealth of books about well-known people in history, like Abraham Lincoln and Harriet Tubman. My students love books about some people they were less familiar with, such as Frida Kahlo and Babe Ruth. One of the titles that is VERY well loved is about Helen Keller, and a small group of my fourth graders has been working to learn the ASL alphabet using the guide in the graphic novel.

We appreciate all you've done to help inspire students to read and learn more about the past. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Back to Basics: Tools for Independent and Small Group Work

    Funded Oct 14, 2021

Staplers, markers, and paper are all pretty basic supplies that are easy to take for granted. With tight budgets, those essential items are often in short supply. Thanks to you, our classroom has the tools we need for success!

Anchor charts on Post-It pads have been great for providing students with essential supports, and have the benefit of being easy to move. Small groups and individual conferences in math go much more smoothly with tools like Expos and dry erase sleeves. Tape and staplers have also helped increase my students' independence as they are able to navigate the materials they need, as there are enough to share.

Thank you for bringing the basics to our classroom and for helping my students succeed!”

  • Reading Workshop for Fourth Graders

    Funded Aug 18, 2021

We cannot thank you enough for your donation to this project!

After over a year of remote learning, students came to fourth grade with a wide range of strengths and needs, particularly in reading. Reading workshop provides a foundation for instruction that allows all students to feel success, while practicing skills at their own independent levels.

Thanks to your donation, we've shared some wonderful books, including The Tiger Rising and Number the Stars; studied characters and themes; and we are now starting a reading-writing unit on the American Revolution and nonfiction reading. Students are engaged, excited to learn, and becoming avid readers.

Thank you for all you've done for my young learners!”

  • STEM Challenges for Third Graders

    Funded May 6, 2021

Soft starts, STEM, hands-on materials - all of these things are so important for students to develop social emotional skills and a deeper understanding of academic concepts.

Thanks to your generosity, my students have the tools they need to grow as learners and thinkers. The Plus Plus Blocks you provided for each student are simple, yet provide students with opportunities to build, explore, and create. With a few STEM challenge cards in each child's toolkit, students have an invitation to think and problem-solve using their blocks and their imaginations.

We are so excited to get building! Thank you again for all you do!”
