  • Save Us Some Space - Let's Get Organized

    Funded Nov 6, 2012

Thank you so much for your generous donation of Neat Seats and a set of organizers to our classroom! The Neat Seats have been SUCH a big hit with my students! They certainly help put the most important and frequently used books at my students' fingertips. This in turn has saved us lots of precious time, so we can spend more time learning and less time gathering and searching for our materials. The organizer you donated has provided my students with bins for books and other materials since we have tables without storage space. Thanks to you, our classroom is more organized and efficient. We appreciate your contribution to our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Extreme Classroom Makeover: Math Games Edition

    Funded Sep 4, 2012

I want to thank you so much for the generous donation you made to our classroom! My students are just LOVING our new cubbies for our math games. When our engineer brought in the cubbies, 30 faces lit up with excitement! Previously, we had our math games in small plastic containers that didn't hold the materials well and which were hard to organize.

Now, our math games are easily stored in large, clear drawers that are easily labeled. Having an organizational system has helped my first graders find what they need, take responsibility for caring for our materials, and keep our classroom tidy.

Thank you again for your contribution to our classroom!”

  • Ramping Up Reading With Leveled Books

    Funded Sep 24, 2012

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous donation to our classroom! The books you donated have been a huge hit with each and every one of my students. When they arrived, my students literally squealed with delight, and since then, they have devoured all the titles.

These books are not only perfect for my growing readers, but also my students who are a bit more fluent, because they allow the students to practice comprehension skills in shorter, more controlled texts. It is difficult to find books that are just right for some of my more advanced readers, but these books are engaging and provide an appropriate challenge.

We love our new books and are so grateful for your support of our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Extra, Extra, Read All About It!

    Funded Jun 7, 2012

Thank you so much for your generous donation of Time for Kids magazines to our classroom! My students love to read nonfiction and to find out about the world around them, but many other news resources are written at too high of a level for nearly all of my students to read. This donation of Time for Kids magazines provides my students with high-quality nonfiction reading and information on current events, while still being accessible to each student. Also, few of my students have books at home, so many of them keep their Time for Kids issues they receive weekly in their home library.

Thank you for providing my students with great reading material and for building their home libraries!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Netbooks for Student Success! Part 2

    Funded Apr 19, 2012

I cannot tell you how excited my students have been to have a netbook in our classroom! Access to technology is limited in our school and in many of my students' homes, so this new computer has definitely been a very in-demand classroom item!

This year, my first graders have been working hard to get better at reading, researching, and investigating. With this netbook, students have been able to use educational websites to access audiobooks to read along with for fluency and word recognition practice. Students also used the netbook you donated to learn more about a famous person by researching with a video-based website.

Without access to technology, students will not be able to compete in the job market or in higher education. Thanks to you, my students have access to learning opportunities both today and in the future. Your generosity is deeply appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Netbooks for Student Success!

    Funded Feb 14, 2012

Thank you all so much for your incredibly generous donations to our classroom! The netbook computer you have provided for my students has been a highly coveted addition to our classroom. Prior to receiving this netbook, technology in our classroom was nearly non-existent, and the computers we did have rarely worked.

Now, students have the opportunity to use a netbook during our Daily 5 rotation. During this time, students can listen to books and complete other interactive activities online to help with reading and spelling skills. Students are also using the netbooks for math fact practice and research on famous people and science topics.

Access to the Internet and technology is critical for our young urban students to learn about the world around them and to be prepared for the 21st century world. Thanks to your donations, my students will be able to access the world from our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Award-Winning Writers, Coming Right Up!

    Funded Apr 1, 2012

Thank you so much for your donation of blank books to our classroom! My students are absolutely LOVING using the small blank books for books they are publishing independently during Daily 5 time. As you can see from the photographs, students are using them to write their own made-up stories, retellings of favorite fairy tales, and even as nonfiction books based on research they did on the Titanic!

We are also in the process of creating end-of-the-year projects with the large, hardcover books you donated. In these, students are compiling their best work they created across the year. These will be keepsakes not only for their families, but also for the students as they reflect on their growth in first grade.

Thanks once again for your generosity and support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Hands-On Math With Manipulatives!

    Funded Dec 31, 2011

I cannot thank you enough for your generosity! Since we've received the individual packs of money manipulatives, my students have renewed interest in learning about money. We recently learned about how to count quarters, in addition to counting dimes, nickels, and pennies as we previously studied, and we have begun to make change. These are challenging concepts for many first graders, but having access to realistic pretend money has been incredibly helpful at making these concepts less abstract. Distributing the money for games and other activities has been drastically cut, since the coins and bills are in small packs that are easy to hand out and quick to collect. This saves precious learning time and provides my students with more opportunities to use these coins to practice counting money.

Thank you so much for supporting my young mathematicians!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Angie Stewart

  • Want a Great Book? Check It Out!

    Funded Jun 9, 2011

I can't thank you enough for the wonderful book checkout system you have provided for our classroom! Before having this book scanner, book checkout took WAY too long for my young students. Now, it's fast and easy for my students to check out books for one another.

Checking out books from our classroom library is a celebrated part of each day, and the classroom librarian job is a coveted title students vie for each week. With your donation, you have not only helped make checking out books easy and fun, but you've also helped to spark a love of reading. Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • Build Brainiacs with BrainPOP!

    Funded Jun 20, 2011

Thank you so much for your generous donation of a BrainPopJr subscription to our classroom!

Each video is high quality and engaging for my young learners. Most of my students are English Language Learners, and the visual and audio components of each video help reinforce many concepts. When we talk about the content of each video, and expand upon it in subsequent lessons, I'll hear many students say to one another, "Remember when Annie and Moby showed that...?" BrainPopJr has added excitement to lessons and helped the content I'm teaching to stick.

Thank you again for your kindness and support of my young learners!”
