Multicultural Language Library!
Funded Nov 19, 2013Thank you all so much for your contributions to help provide an amazing set of books to my students. They have loved them all and have been flying through them, and are now re-reading their favorites. One student literally hugged and kissed one book that she really felt a connection with. It really makes a difference for students to be able to read books that reflect a wide variety of cultures and languages, and I hope this set of books continues to grow and inspire my students.
Some of the most popular have been "Tap Tap," a story about growing up in Haiti, "The Empty Pot," a Chinese folk tale about honesty and courage, and "Esperanza Renace/Esperanza Rising," a novel in Spanish and English that deals with immigration, class distinctions, and how to negotiate changing family dynamics.
Having a wide range of books allows my ridiculously wide range of students find something that fits their ability, age, culture, and personality. I teach 7th-12th graders and students that have missed out on some formal schooling for years and those that can take AP level classes in both Spanish and English. These books give me the flexibility to engage all of them and help them really enjoy reading.
Thanks again for your help, it really makes a difference!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Flanagan
Enriching our Maps Center!
Funded Nov 21, 2011Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom. Your contributions have already made an impact and will continue to do so. The fun, interactive, and tactile experiences my students are able to have with these materials have helped transform my lessons and engage many more students.
I am so happy to be able to share this experience with you and with my students. It has been so important for them, not only for its educational value, which is immense, but also for the inspiration and knowledge that there are people that care about their education and the success of our school. They were blown away by this gesture of generosity, and, ironically, I can tell that it has had as much of an impact on how they view the world as the globes have.
Once again, thank you.
