  • Empowering Students Through Community Water Testing and Service

    Funded Oct 21, 2024

    Thank you for supporting our class water testing kit project! With these resources, my students and I have embarked on an incredible journey of hands-on learning and community service. We've been testing water quality in the Aptos park water fountains near our school, to assess safety and environmental health. This project has allowed students to learn about how to test for the presence of harmful contaminants. Recently, we conducted a test of the water quality of Aptos parks' drinking fountains. The students were relieved to see the results and were inspired to continue testing on campus.

    When the water testing kits first arrived, and I explained what we were doing, students were curious and excited. Students eagerly unpacked the boxes and began exploring the materials, asking questions about how they worked and what we would use them for. These moments are both heartwarming and validating, showing how meaningful your support is to them. These kits have ignited curiosity and engagement, making science feel accessible and impactful in their lives.

    This work not only reinforces their understanding of real world safety questions but also builds critical skills in teamwork, and problem-solving. Your generosity has empowered them to become active contributors to their community, and we are so grateful for your support!”
