My students are children of color, some are special ed students, some love sports, arts, comic books, suspense fiction and some like science and social studies. They all like to read, and are working hard to become skilled readers and writers. They just started middle school and are trying to figure out what is expected of them, and who is believing they can be successful and break the cycle of poverty and ignorance in order to move towards empowerment.
