EIHS Seniors Go to College!
Funded Jun 1, 2020Thank you for the generous donations to our seniors! Despite the pandemic interrupting their senior, our students finished strong and were able to move on to their chosen colleges.
Our students were able to use the dorm supplies and technology such as computers, chargers, and speakers to help transition and fully engage in their post-secondary education. With most schools having some or all classes being delivered virtually, this high-quality technology was critical to students being successful during their first year.
Transitioning to college can be a scary time for students. That was especially true this year, when normal procedures gave way to pandemic protocols. Having reliable devices was one way we were able to support our students as they navigated this transition. Thank you for your support.”

This classroom project was brought to life by #GraduateTogether and one other donor. The a-MAZE-ING Race
Funded Aug 14, 2018Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom. Through your donation, my students were able to program MakeBlock mBots and investigate how robots can be applied to real-world scenarios such as rescuing a team trapped in a flooded cave. I saw such excitement from my students when they first saw the robots. Despite most of them having little experience with robotics, students pushed themselves to assemble the robots and program them.
Despite their initial excitement, programming always comes with its own unique challenges. My students had to troubleshoot and think creatively to get their robots to solve the mazes. It was especially rewarding to see my students' teamwork as they worked through the project. I recall a specific debate, where a group was coding on one phone and another student was providing suggestions on the next line to insert. The group went back and forth, trying different suggestions and making adjustments until the code functioned the way they wanted it to. all the students were engaged as they worked towards their common goals.
Your donation will have a lasting impact on my class. I am already working on projects for next year that will use the robots again. Through the MakeBlock mBots, my students saw that math is not only numbers on a page but applies to so many real-world scenarios. I look forward to continuing to use these devices to help my students learn about math in a context that relates to their lives. Again, thank you so much for your support!”

Save Our Salmon!
Funded Feb 15, 2018Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom and my students! They were so excited to see drills, PVC pipes, and clamps in a math classroom! While our students are frequently able to build and design, their genuine excitement at the prospect of getting to create salmon shooter prototypes was something different and invigorating. From researching our supply list to watching our project fund, the students were engaged and invested beyond what I normally see in my classroom.
As students began to build, I watched an incredible energy develop in the classroom. Students who often stand back and let other lead were taking charge and teaching other students how to turn their designs into reality. My students had the opportunity to explore construction techniques and learn real-life lessons about how their choices in construction affect the final outcome. As one student described, "Even though this may not work I'm so excited to see what happens!"
I write this letter to you, donors, on the eve of our final presentation- my students will be proposing their ideas and prototypes to the community at an exhibition tomorrow night. They have been feverishly practicing their parts, combing through slides for errors, and editing and re-editing their CAD designs. The same excitement that began with our funded project is still palpable in each and every student as they finalize their proposals. We did this together, donors. We got high school students ridiculously excited about MATH. Thank you.”
